The character of Jarrad is from the quest "Poison in the Dark", and can be encountered in the village of Whitehill.
“Some hundred years or so, all this area used to belong to the gnomes, you know? And that mine up there was their fortune – they brought all sorts of riches out of there. But they had some big party one night, and there was a big kerfuffle, and they all died. Big deal, says I. No reason to keep bringing it up now, says I. But I can’t kill what’s already dead, though by the looks of you, you may be able to.”
He is a self-important human merchant who has no real authority, though he represents the villagers. In actuality, Whitehill falls under the jurisdiction of the nearest large town.
Jarrad will give the characters the basic information: that the hillside flashes at night with something not unlike the aurora borealis, and the mist curls into strange symbols. He also reports that some of the local children are having nightmares, but dismisses this as the overactive imagination of youth. If the characters press him further for that kind of information, he sends them to speak with Maari Mirrormere, a halfling fletcher.
Description
Jarrad is a human of middling years, with a decided paunch and a constant sheen of sweat on his face. He is bumbling, stuttering, and occasionally forgetful, and wears a large satin hat, which he uses to distinguish himself from his fellows.
Traits and Motivations
Jarrad is self-important and rather greedy, but is motivated by a genuine desire to help his fellows. He want to be acknowledged as a person of means and morals, a motivation which occasionally gets in the way of the wisest course of action.
