Dugarth Shornshod

One of the minor NPCs from the adventure "The Dragon's Hall", living in Shepshed.

"If I had a silver for every wandering adventurer chasing a story, I’d still charge you double. Beds aren’t free just because the world’s on fire."

Married to Dierdre Shornshod and father to Fention, Dugarth is the surly proprietor of the Welcome Inn, and Shepshed’s most outspoken pessimist. Known for his bitterness and short temper, he keeps the inn running (barely), and is quick to brush off the strange or the suspicious. Dugarth sees the world as hard, full of fools, and best ignored unless it’s paying for ale. He is deeply skeptical of his son’s tale about the crater, and will grumble at any questions regarding it.

Description

A thickset human in his early fifties, Dugarth has a permanent five-o’clock shadow, arms like barrels, and a scowl for every occasion. He wears a stained apron over a once-white shirt and wipes his hands on it more often than is sanitary. His hairline is retreating, and his voice has the gravel of a life spent shouting over tavern noise.

Traits and Motivations

Blunt, pragmatic, and deeply tired, Dugarth is not cruel, but his kindness has turned into suspicion. He mistrusts anything outside the predictable grind of innkeeping and cattle trade, and believes soft-heartedness will get you killed. Underneath the gruffness is a worried father who doesn’t know how to guide his son’s gentler nature in a world he sees as unforgiving.
