“We have stolen nothing but our freedom! We came here for shelter, and Peris of Cardin repaired the air-circulator. From then on, the spirits gave us no rest. We do not know how we have angered them in simply repairing it!”

Bulga is a male wererat, who led Peris of Cardin and Greta Ratsdaughter through the wilderness after escaping from the caravan, and into the relative safety of the mine. However, after Peris of Cardin repaired the ventilation machine, they were trapped. He is vicious, deceitful, and focussed entirely on survival.

Description

Bulga is wiry and hunched, with limbs that seem just a little too long and a neck that cranes forward as if always sniffing the air for danger—or opportunity. His hair is greasy and matted, retreating into a widow’s peak that accentuates his sharp, rodent-like features. His nose twitches involuntarily when he's agitated. In his hybrid form, his yellowed incisors protrude from a perpetual sneer, and his eyes gleam with a feral intelligence. He wears a tattered ringmaster's coat stolen from his circus days, which he refuses to part with—though it's now held together with wire and rusted buttons.

Traits and Motivations

Bulga is a schemer and survivor, always seeking the upper hand and rarely making a move unless he's sure it's safe—or at least someone else will take the fall first. He still harbors a deep resentment for the circus that exploited him, and has become obsessed with gaining control over others to avoid ever being used again. He sees the wererat curse as a gift: proof that he’s sharper, faster, and sneakier than anyone else. He’s especially good at playing meek or pathetic to earn sympathy—right before he stabs someone in the back.
