"All is still in the marsh. The air is heavy with the smell of salt and fungus. In the shrine’s center, a basin filled with ash ripples as if stirred by breath — though no one exhales. And from the nearby trees, the wind moans words that no one can remember hearing."
The party is asked to investigate a string of disappearances. When they arrive, they find the village still standing — but utterly uninhabited. Even stranger, the road signs and town ledgers are empty, overwritten, or written in backwards script.
Significant NPCs:
Sister Emlen Tross – A local priestess who fears the shrine was once sacred to Vecna’s earliest warlocks.
Captain Varn of the Tempestmen – Sent to “protect” the restoration, but none have seen him speak aloud.
Bray Uldren – The last villager who remembers the vanished — but not their names, nor his own.
Rewards:
A fragment of stone that renders the bearer immune to name-based magic for a day.
A map that redraws itself to exclude false identities.
A whisper-mark that Vecna’s faithful will recognize — but also fear.
Lore Tie-Ins:
The original shrine was built by a nameless disciple of Vecna, who willingly erased himself from all records. Faramond seeks to recover the Echo-Stone he left behind.
