The character of Farnley is from the quest "The Wraith's Barrow", and can be encountered around Billingston.
"Please -cough- please, they’re still in there. Billingston’s not gone yet. I got out. I got out to find you. Please - just go. Help them… before it’s too late."
Farnley is a young, unremarkable farmer who becomes unforgettable in death. With an arrow jutting from his chest and blood soaking his clothes, he stumbles from the forest - half-dead but driven by courage - to deliver a desperate message: the village of Billingston is under siege.
Farnley will collapse after encountering the players, his last breaths spent pleading for help. In narrative terms, he is a powerful catalyst: a simple soul whose death pushes the party into a moral crossroad. Whether they heed his call or ignore it, Farnley’s final journey leaves a mark.
Description
Farnley is barely into his twenties, with tousled brown hair plastered to his forehead with sweat and blood. His face is pale with shock and pain, and his limbs tremble from loss of blood and fear. His farmer’s tunic is rough-spun and plain, the kind worn by fieldhands and threshers, now torn and soaked through. His voice is weak and raw, but there’s fire behind his eyes, even as his life ebbs away.
Traits and Motivations
Farnley volunteered to run the gauntlet of undead-infested forest not because he believed he would survive, but because someone had to. His overwhelming motivation is the survival of his village: friends, family, neighbors. Though he will not survive the encounter, Farnley’s selflessness may inspire the party to action.
