In the farthest north of the reach of the Goliath Dominion sits the Limestone Henge. It towers on a cliff above the sea: a circle of twelve stones, limestone pinnacles reaching forty feet into the salt mists. On cold nights in the mist, sailors in the north sea will swear that they can use the eerie blue glow from between the stones as a marker to guide them away from the cliffs, and occasionally travellers will come on the lunar eclipse to ask the wisdom of the Leviathan.
Audience with the Leviathan
The Leviathan, according to the old writings, was one of the First Ones, a being of unimaginable power and unfathomable concept. There are records of their existence across the world, and it is generally understood to be a creature that lives in the deepest parts of the ocean and the ice at the edge of the world: a mile long, with skin encrusted with the barnacles and debris of the millennia.
Pilgrims have long ventured to the Henge to gain an audience with the Leviathan: after all, the wisdom of a creature present in the very beginning of creation would be a boon indeed. However, while some do come away with answers to their questions, a power that they sought, or an understanding of things beyond mortal ken, most leave with their minds shattered by the meeting.
Wyrd Magicks
Every lunar eclipse, the stones at the Limestone Henge open a portal between this place and another, where the Leviathan slumbers. With the totality of the lunar eclipse the strength of the opening grows, so that, at its peak, the Leviathan can not only speak with the pilgrims to the Henge, but some of its magick can leak through.
Wyrd magic is similar to wild magic: untameable, beyond understanding, and like to drive the wielder mad. What the purpose of the Leviathan is in granting it is unknown.
Watcher on the Peak
The cliffs near the Limestone Henge also host an old, abandoned cottage. Once, some few hundred years ago, a young man petitioned to the Leviathan to grant him the power to make his lady love fall for his charms – and his wish was granted. But the power came at a price, and the Leviathan eventually bound him to the stones, to the duty of caring for them, in life and in death.
