The village outside of the stone gates to the dwarven city is called Glaston: in fact, though the vast majority of peoples around call the city Glaston, it is actually called Heimglah, and this village is what they refer to. Outsiders are not welcome in the city, so the small trading post in Glaston is as much as most have seen.
Despite its small size (roughly 700 people), it has a very wide range of races present in its population, due to the caravans and traders that come in and bring resources, news, and finances to the otherwise remote settlement.
Significant locations within Glaston, and the people therein, include the following:
The Crystal Light. A large, three-storied tavern, the Crystal Light is the main stay for most of the travellers and traders that pass through. The lower floor is entirely stables, warehouses, and storage, while the upper two floors make up the dining and accommodation parts of the building. It is run by Dervin Tubthumper, a local dwarf who can give some information to the players.
Glaston Hall. The village hall is a tall, peak-roofed building in the main square of the village. It includes the offices of the local section of the Merchants’ Guild, the financial sector, and the offices of the mayor, a human noble named Rielsed Nearvain.
Shrine. Advice, wisdom, and healing are dispensed at the local place of worship. It does not adhere to any specific god, and is kept and maintained by a white-robed tiefling, known only as the Abbot of Glaston.
Mercenaries Guild Building. A squat stone building, it houses the only gaol in the area, though criminals are more often simply kept in the cages that are hung from a hook jutting from the roof. The guild oversees the guards on the caravans in the area, and take lawkeeping seriously. Tevelik Patcheye, a halfing fighter, is their head, and the rest are a mismatched group of world-weary soldiers.
