Welcome to Haldor, Weary Traveler!
Haldor, the White City, was a brief but memorable metropolis. It was the seat of the ruling monarchy, and a known hub for commerce, culture, and the occasional dark deed. It featured noteworthy locales, including the Crystal Shadow Inn, a resplendent library, the royal palace, and more.
The last resident of the city left it over a decade ago. No one is entirely sure why, but rumors buzzed about the failing health of the monarch, encroaching armies seeking the wealth of the kingdom, and more, perhaps to justify the flight of so many citizens. Some left in droves, others alone, but in time the city was completely abandoned. And in the absence of civilization, something dark settled within, causing the very stones and planks to crumble far ahead of their time. This was the Wasting.
Answering a call from an unrecognizable source, a group of former citizens banded together and cured the city of the Wasting curse that had not only driven away its populace, but had started laying ruin to the place itself. They decided to work toward restoring this once great jewel of Amathia.
In time, word spread of their efforts, and the people have slowly started to return. The square stands at the heart, splayed before the Crystal Shadow Inn and other businesses slowly being rebuilt. However, the fountain, a monument of the city, has been repaired to its former glory. Pure white marble has been shaped into the form of a woodland scene in homage to the Kithalin Forest with a large ledge meant for sitting and three feet deep water. The sprawling square surrounding the fountain has regrown its luscious grass and beautiful flowers, a testament to the mending of the city.
The inn and battlements are mostly restored, but there is still plenty of work to be done, with more and more being built every day. Traders have again started to return to the city, and with them, new folk who had never seen the White City before, and wished to be a part of something being born anew.
