Description

Dev is a 35-year-old gangly-looking wizard, with scruffy brown hair and brown eyes. He's 5' 11" and 140 lbs. He carries a staff that he uses as his spellcasting focus (and a melee weapon, in a pinch). He is easily distracted.

History

Dev was born Devros Alderwynd, second child and only son of the Alderwynd family. His father, Dorian, is a wealthy aristocrat who is very concerned with projecting an image of power and propriety, though Dev always suspected that the family fortune was not entirely obtained through legitimate means.

As a teen, Dev began to show an affinity for magic. Dorian saw his son as an unstable element at best, and a danger at worst - not someone suitable for continuing his legacy. Dorian began to make plans for the Alderwynd family's future without Dev.

With the help of his older sister Sophia, Dev stole as much as he could get away with and hid. He traveled, studying magic were he could. When he was able to, he preferred to spend time learning in formal settings... but he'd try to pick up things from anyone who could show him magic.

Eventually, the money Dev stole from his family ran out. He started using his skills to take sketchy jobs from people who were willing to pay in cash or magical knowledge. He didn't have issues with robbing rich, wealthy families like his own, but he didn't like jobs that hurt people who were just trying to get by.

Dev's last job before joining the Starshard banner went badly. He was caught, and set fire to the magical items he was stealing to cover his escape. Dev's employer wants compensation for the items he lost, and would not have a problem making an example out of Dev if necessary.

Dev misses his sister, but isn't in any hurry to leave the Riftspan. He's already thinking about signing up again after his current six-month contract runs out.

Routine

Dev usually spends time in his tent avoiding physical labor and studying magic. He is curious about the collapse and the Riftspan itself, and will seek out people who have stories to tell. He entertains himself with coin tricks and various illusions. He's also known to create fantastical braided hair styles.
