Hi Yul,
Hope everything at the tailors is going alright! Did I tell you about the cool ring I got that has a bunch of different outfits in it? It’s sweet, maybe if I can have it duplicated I could send it over and make your job a little easier. Mask knows I need mine to be!Me, Ragnum, and Dev all went through that stupid portal thing to the west of here to help fix some bridge. It was hot and tiring and when we got there we had to move some boxes! Luckily Dev used some spell to make a big disc that carried some of the boxes and the rest me and him put on the wagon we brought. Not to brag or anything but I did a good job stacking boxes. Maybe once I’m out of here I could do some moving work (trying to think of a name for my mover persona! Movera? Movin? Boxum?).
The forewoman there was a buff hobgoblin called Gideona! She told us about some aerial threats in the area that had been bothering them. Well I didn’t see any at first they made themselves VERY apparent when we got to the bridge. We were just unloading the boxes off the wagon when we heard some screeching!.... Yul these birds or bat things were GROSS. They swooped down and started attacking us and the workers, one of them started singing (very badly). I wasn’t moved by it but Dev and other other workers got enthralled by it. They started walking towards the edge of the bridge and so being the hero I am, I was able to stop a couple of them. It seemed that if you blocked their eyes they were uncharmed. I managed to get a worker and Dev. I couldn’t hear what he was hearing but he was mumbling something about Sophia (his sister I’m pretty sure). The wizard was about to run past me but I covered his eyes and luckily he was able to snap out of it, and then he snapped those stupid birds with his magic missiles!
We were able to kill most of the birds (side note I need to pick up a spear or crossbow or something from Sarna, my fists can only reach so far!). They managed to kill one of the worker but everyone else was fine! We ended up eating the birds and honestly they were pretty good, very tender from all of all beating on it.
One of the workers' apprentices made some rude comments to me about my changeling appearance, so obviously I schooled him. He got all upset and left after I asked how he liked his time in the freak show! Ragnum side eyed me and I think Dev was asleep by then but hey if you can’t take it don’t dish it!
Anyways it seems like the Bridge will be done by the end of the summer, and it also seems like the sunken city is westward. From what Ragnum found out it’s a coastal city, and the coast is west from us. I hope they finish the bridge a little soon so we can get that priestess bones and give them back to their boring bird god. Also because it would be nice to have a summer day by the beach!
I'll write again soon! -Die-Anna

What am I doing here? I never should have left you to deal with all the mess I left behind, Sophia. Yet here I am, hiding in a pocket dimension poking around at curiosities like they matter. I screwed up and I don’t know if I can fix it.
We came back last night through that awful fast-transit portal the Banner has – I feel like I’m getting turned inside out, put through a wringer and then stretched out again every time I go through it.
Ragnum, Die-Anna and I were assigned to help with the bridge repairs out west. We got put to work straight away hauling boxes of supplies from the portal to the construction site. I relied on magic to help us out, but Die-Anna was the real wizard of stacking boxes. We were warned of an aerial threat, but we just saw some birds flying far overhead as we traveled to the construction site.
We soon realized how far up they had been when they swooped down towards us and the workers at the site. They were not birds – they were human-sized bat creatures with four wings and they were horrible. Their ugliness wasn’t the worst part, though. I heard one of them call out to me in your voice, calling me to come home.
Die-Anna managed to pull me back before I reached the edge of the cliff. One of the construction workers wasn’t as fortunate. She plunged over the side and was momentarily saved by her harness, but the monstrosities couldn’t resist the easy prey and ate her before we could dispatch them.
We stayed for two more nights and fought off more of the horrors. Someone at this Banner outpost has worked out how to cook them up as a delicacy, believe it or not. The engineers are hoping to have the bridge repairs completed by fall. I am hoping to have worked out a way to return home before then.
P.S. Merry has started writing depressing poetry about over-steeped tea. Here's one I was able to copy while they were out.
"The Steeped Lament"
I once was leaf, in sun I swayed,
In morning mist, my roots were laid.
They plucked me young with greedy hands,
To boil my soul in foreign lands.Unresolved Threads:
