Dawnrise Day 42 - Entry #2

Woke up to see Eda waving around the archaic halfling book, now deciphered. Turns out to be a mayor's planner of his day-by-day with some odd scheduling towards the end. Eda was adamant about visiting the village to learn more so Ragnum, Dev the Wizard, and I, all went on a little trip. Apparently, it's called Barrowood. We passed the creepy part of the woods that makes no sound again, deeply unsettling by the way, and that spot where I thought gravity didn't obey laws turns out to only affect what was there prior after Ragnum tested the spot. While I'd love for that to have been the weirdest thing we came across, it looks like the Barrowood has some secrets beneath the dirt. Did some stomping in the town hall, accidentally popped open a secret passage way as one does and found a little room with a swan insignia on the door wayyy down there (used my swan stamp from my last visit and it worked?) While I love pretty loot, Eda got a little too close to a (cursed?) mirror and two ghosts decided pop out and join us. While they downed one of us, and I def didn't miss several times, Dev and Eda were serious help in the ghost busting. But Eda is really reserved after our trip, even with all our good loot and dragging back the (cursed???) mirror with us, she seems seriously off. Hopefully, we can find someone to replace her spot in the support regiment and into the academic tent with the eggheads. It does require speaking to Taliyah...there's a lot I can do, but swallowing my pride isn't happening.

Eda finally gave in; her odd behavior and humming have reached an answer, because most of us thought she was possessed while insisting everything was “good”. Instead, she’s been sleepwalking, apparently getting closer and closer to Barrowood each time she knocks out. She did her best to explain that a “ritual” was interrupted when we last visited the town, some kind of story that she needed to change the ending to, and the pocket watch was part of the solution. She did cry a bit as we were getting ready to go, also note: Murph and Lynis are not very good with emotional confrontation. Made an analogy to Lynis, and he thought I was threatening to sic Blu on him. I tried my best. Dev, Odette, Eda, the cursed mirror, and I trudged over to Barrowood, and found somewhere for Eda to sleep. Odette tried singing a song her mother taught her, then ended up crying, “bring me back to life” has an interesting ring to it, also she mentioned something called a “Caprisun”?? To figure out later. I had a sea shanty, but that harp/lyre wasn’t tuned right; sounded like a tomcat’s wail.

Eda ended up falling asleep eight hours later, and it was either the freaky town or a lack of sleep, but ghosts started appearing AGAIN. I got Odette and Dev to listen, but they looked at me like I had three heads. I think I’m being gaslit.

After a while, Eda ended up walking dead asleep, harp/lyre in her hands, and almost went cave diving into the town’s well. We snatched her up before Dev found a switch on the well for us to descend. Two ghost guards materialized when we reached this large room, some glyphs behind them reading/meaning “An exchange of energy and isolation”. The cursed mirror decided to make an entrance, and mid-fight, began to pull Eda into it?? Dev nearly died, the mirror nearly broke, Odette made one of the ghosts cower for a good minute, but once Eda came to, she starting singling a halfling song that stopped the mirror from trying to suck everyone up.

Now the songs/voices in Eda’s head are gone, ghosts poofed, and we found the twin to the pocketwatch that belonged to a “Marla” that Eda knows from some dreams she had, also to figure out later.

Odett Verbor

Basically we had eda sleep and followed her sleepwalking which led us to a well.
We went into the well (taking the easy way after it turned into stairs thanks to dev) when we ran into some spirits that I spooked,
but the haunted mirror followed us down and started to suck up eda while we were ghost hunting.
At the end of it all the mirror crashed and broke and she seemed to snap out of it?
She did sing a song or chant and changed the ending of the story she said
before it broke

Unresolved Threads:

  • What turned Barrowed from a town of peaceful woodworkshops into a town focused on defense?

    • Paper: “e7” dated (20 years post collapse) list of supplies and weapons [Scholars Tent]
