The Owlbear Protection Society (OPS) is a unique organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of the elusive and often misunderstood owlbears. Despite the society's focus on a rather niche cause, it wields considerable influence, owing to the brilliance and eccentricity of its founder and leader, Stannum Lovelace.
The OPS are mainly concerned with adding more Owlbears to our great country through a breeding program but also take action against people who disturb the creatures or their territory. They are known for inflicting heavy penalties like fines or sending killsquads after wrongdoers.
The Society’s Operations
The Owlbear Protection Society, under the leadership of the Lovelace family, works tirelessly to protect owlbears from poachers, illegal traders, and habitat destruction. They employ a combination of magical wards, political lobbying, and public education to ensure that owlbears can thrive in the wild. The society is also known for its sanctuaries, where owlbears can live safely under the watchful care of druids and other magical caretakers.
The OPS may seem like a whimsical group to outsiders, but its members are some of the most dedicated and resourceful individuals in the country. The society's influence extends beyond conservation; it also has strong ties to other powerful guilds and organizations, making it a quiet but significant force in the countries political landscape.
Headquarters
The Owlbear Protection Society operates out of a large, enchanted grove on the outskirts of the city of Stormhaven near Thornvale. The headquarters is a sprawling, forested estate where owlbears roam freely, protected by magical barriers and patrolled by druids and rangers. The Lovelace family resides in a grand, ivy-covered manor at the center of the estate, where they host meetings, conduct research, and manage the society’s affairs
History
Pre Hadar the main goal of the OPS was to get more Owlbears. They were a species on the brink of extinction by hunting.
In the final battle during the Crimson Dusk the OPS is known to have joined the fight together with their precious Owlbears to ride into battle and help defeat the great evil.
Post Hadar the OPS had years and years of uninterupted growth because the world at large was busy with the Grand Mother. In this period the numbers of Owlbears in Kildar were rising steadily due to the many forests that were protected and were made into great breeding grounds for the Owlbears. Other species in this ecosystem also thrived and it was quite a good time for nature.
Post grand mother the OPS is now becoming a force to be reckoned with. The numbers of Owlbears (and other woodland creatures that are sympathetic with the OPS) have now reached into the thousands. Which, taking the combat prowess of these 'animals', is larger than many an army. Lucky for us these creatures are living all over Kildar in smaller groups and they are not organized.
