Dhampirs
/

Description

Dhampirs, like Aasimars and Tieflings can trace their lineage to any species, and like Aasimars and Tieflings, something 'unnatural' is mixed in family tree. With Dhampirs, this is Vampires.

Dhampirs will often look no different than the rest of their parental species, whether that is Human, Dragonborn, Dwarf, Gnomes or anything else. But there are some details that give away that they are Dhampir such as:

  • Razor sharp vampiric fangs

  • A more gaunt appearance with paler skin, fur or scales

Culture

Dhampirs and vampires are both creatures of folklore and mythology that are said to be part human (or other species) and part vampire. However, there are some key differences between Dhampirs and Vampires. In folklore Dhampirs are typically portrayed as the offspring of a vampire and a human, possessing some of the strengths and weaknesses of both species. They are often depicted as vampire hunters or protectors of humans against their bloodthirsty relatives. Vampires, on the other hand, are fully undead creatures that feed on the blood of the living to sustain themselves. They are often portrayed as immortal, powerful beings with a range of supernatural abilities. While both dhampirs and vampires share a connection to the world of the undead, their roles and characteristics are distinct in folklore.

Due to their vampiric lineage, dhampirs are often seen as cursed or are mistaken for an actual vampire. If surrounded by a superstitious community, like rural ones often are, the life of a dhampir can be one of constant bullying, harassments or banishment. It can lead living an isolated life. But in larger cities, where superstitions are fewer and understanding is better, a dhampir may live a life no different than any other.

History

There are at least two known vampires in Kildar:

  • Destro Fortica, who died fighting Grandmother in September 604

  • Elijah Endstein, a nobleman on a quest to ressurect his wife and in his desperation sought a solution in vampirisms. He lives isolated at his estate, near Stormhaven. He is a major financial donor to the O.P.S. as his wife loved owlbears
