Description
Lineages are a bit different from Species; while a species is an immutable trait determined by biology, Lineages are determined by a persons actions or the actions of their ancestors. Perhaps once parents are elves, but their grandparent made a deal with the devil, making a person a Tiefling. Or they are the child of a vampire and a human, making them a Dhampir. Or a dracolich brought back to life a dead adventurer to use as a pawn in her schemes, making them a 'reborn'.
The effects of a lineage are combined with apprearance of a species, creating an individual that has an appearance similar to their parental species, but with the traits of a lineage replacing some of the characteristics of the species. Often they will have destinct visual characteristics hinting to their lineage. With Tieflings this is their horns, eyes and tails. With aasimars their wings, and for dhampirs their vampiric fangs.
Aasimar trace their lineage to the Heavens and upper planes, they have a touch of the devine within them.
Tieflings trace their lineage to the Hells and lower planes, they have a touch of the infernal or demonic within them.
Dhampirs trace their lineage to Vampires.
Shifters trace their lineages to nature and lycanthropy
Hexbloods trace their lineage to the Hags, the Fey or Eldritch beings.
Reborn are individuals who have died, and should be dead, but somehow still walk along the living
Because the effects of a lineage combine with those of a species, this result in many different possible combinations of species and lineages, just to name a few: A Dhampir Elf, a Tiefling Orc, an Aasimar Goblin, a Reborn Kobolt, a Gnome Shifter or a Hexblood Halfling.
Culture
To meet someone with a lineage is a rare occurence and these indiviuals often have to deal with the many biases associated with the origin of the lineage. The horns and tails of tieflings often causes 'uneducated' people to confuse them with real devils and demons, resulting in antagonistic attitudes of deep distrust and fear upon a first time encounter. While an aasimar might be revered and worship as divine beings by their communities.
Because of this, the childhood of people with lineages might be very different from their peers and might make them decide to hide their destinctive features in order to fit into society, or shun society all together and live in remote places.
Some who have a lineage, discover they have inherited magical powers and practice magic as sorcerers. Others may decide turn to the origin of their lineage for guidance or power, entering warlock pacs with them.
