Description
The organisation under which the many mercenary companies of Kildar work together to further their political and financial interests.
Goals, Aspirations & Fears
The Mercenaries Guild believes that its most important goal is to defend Kildar and its people. Whilst there is no
Structure & people
Where once the Guild's structure was made up of the individual companies working together to have representation in the court of the Medvedovs and later in the Landsraad, the new portal network has brought many changes to the Guild in recent years. Most notably, that the Guild has changed from a bottom-up to a top-down structure; where once the Guild got it's authority from the individual companies, now the companies act at the behest of the Guild.
Since the start of Lezre Bandit-Butcher's tenure as representative of the Guild in the Landsraad and with it her tenure as the Military Guilds' Grand-Commander, the Guild has taken to aggressively protecting it's size and influence. Whereas companies used to join simply because of the benefit of having the Guild's representative in the Landsraad, now any company that does not obey the guild loses out on any cooperation with local guard, smith, adventurer or bounty hunter guilds, often making them go bankrupt rather quickly.
Leader
Lezre Bandit-Butcher is both the representative of the Mercenaries Guild in the Landsraad as well as the Military Guilds' Grand-Commander. The leaders of the different mercenary companies often travel to Arland to advise her, but in the end her word is absolute within the Guild.
Quest Giver
Adventurers and dignitaries of cities and Guilds are often contact or are contacted by the two secretaries of Lezre Bandit-Butcher.
Huff, who resides in Arland, is the first person one would speak to upon entering the Mercenaries Keep in Arland. He is a massive Cloud Giant Goliath who oversees the finances of the Guild and makes sure the Keep is kept in order when Lezre is in Stormhaven. He barely fits in most of the rooms of the keep, but luckily his office is the entrance hall, which has a rather high ceiling.
Puff, who lives in the keep of the mercenary chapter in Stormhaven, is also a Cloud Giant Goliath and Huff's sibling. They hold down the proverbial and literal fort in the Capital when Lezre Bandit-Butcher is in Arland. They are also the person the other guilds speak to when Lezre is not available, for example by attending the Landsraad meetings.
Opponent
A veteran Dwarven mercenary captain by the name of Fargrim Silveraxe, who has butted heads with Lezre many times in the past, refused to follow her orders and pulled his company, called 'The Severed Tusk', out of the Guild.
Though he was a respected veteran member of the Guild for centuries, Lezre's interference made sure that his company never received a worthwhile contract again, often undercutting the Severed Tusk's prices so steeply that any contract offered to the company was often swiftly retracted, eventually forcing Fargrim to dissolve the company.
In order to pay his men and get revenge on Lezre and the rest of the Guild, which he felt had betrayed him by allowing her to persecute him, Fargrim took his mercenaries out of their homebase of Rhyl and moved them south. There he has attempted to interrupt the Guild's missions and erode support for the Mercenaries and the Landsraad among the rural population.
