Values

Loyalty: A mercenary is to be steadfastly loyal to the one that holds their contract and to their comrades in arms.

  • Every member of the Mercenary's Guild is part of a whole and they should act like it. Whilst most contracts taken by the Guild and its members do not necessarily result in a mercenary's death, a member of the Guild should always accept the possibility. To break a contract, either by fleeing from a fight or because of any other reason, means to be branded a deserter of the Guild. And the Mercenaries Guild always makes sure that deserting is as an undesirable fate as dying in a fight is.

Honour: A mercenary is no common thug and should therefore not take a contract that requires them to break the law or compromise their honour.

  • Whilst mercenaries in other lands might be able to afford to compromise their honour for coin, this is not the case in Kildar. As a core part of the central government, the Guild's members represent both the Guild and the Landsraad in all their actions. The leadership of the Guild feels a strong responsibility to uphold common law and a feeling of safety in the more remote areas of Kildar. As such they implore their members to take care to never lose sight of their honour, even when they are fighting to fill their purses.

Strength: A mercenary should be capable of completing any contract they accept.

  • Whilst failure in life is unavoidable, when a mercenary fails, it often means their own death and that of a client or comrade in arms. Since all of these outcomes are undesirable, a mercenary should not only train to become the best fighter they can be, but they should also know their limits and honour them. Taking a contract to kill a dragon is best left to the reckless members of the Adventurers Guild.
