Ironhold

Ironhold is a dwarven town carved deep within a mountain, its heart a vast natural cavern reshaped by masterful hands into towering halls, forge-lined streets, and sturdy dwellings. A smaller outer quarter lies at the mountain’s foot, where those less fond of underground life have settled among taverns, stables, and a handful of farms. For centuries Ironhold was famed across Kildar as a place of riches and craft, its mines producing gold, diamonds, and other precious stones, as well as the rarest and most coveted metals –mithril and adamantine. From these treasures the dwarves forged weapons and armor without equal, earning the town renown far beyond its size.

That golden age was shattered when, without warning, a rift to the Abyss tore open in the depths. Demons poured through, overwhelming the mines and spilling into the city itself. The Dwarves fought desperately alongside the zealous warriors of the Eldritch Inquisition, who answered their call for aid. In time the rift was closed and the invaders driven out, but the cost was heavy: Ironhold's growth was halted, large swaths of the mines were lost, and the town was left scarred by fire and battle. Even now, fiends linger in the deep, and it is said it will take another thirty years before the mines are fully cleansed.

Yet Ironhold did not fall, and in the years since it has rebuilt with steady hands and unshaken pride. The forges burn again, producing blades and armor worthy of their old reputation, and the outer quarter hums with merchants and travelers drawn by the promise of rare materials and steady work. The scars of the past remain, but they serve now as a reminder of resilience rather than ruin.

Ironhold has also become a proving ground for all of Kildar. With demons still lurking in the deep tunnels, the town offers a dangerous but controlled environment for testing new weapons, tactics, and battle formations. Dwarves, human mercenaries, and Inquisition forces regularly drill here, turning the reclaimed sections of the mines into training grounds where squads hone their skills against both fiends and one another. Many of the finest weapons are field-tested in Ironhold before being carried to the front lines of Kildar’s wars, and adventurers seeking to prove themselves often come here to join in the trials.

Today Ironhold stands as a testament to dwarven endurance and military ingenuity. Its people know that time and perseverance will heal what was broken, and already the town shows signs of returning to its former glory. In the years to come, Ironhold is destined not only to recover but to flourish once more – its name carried across Kildar as both a bastion of craft and a crucible of war.
