Description
This diverse coalition of guilds and factions seeks to investigate, research and uncover the mysteries of the world. The knowledge factions wish to discover and understand the World of Kildar, Magic and the unknown beyond the Rifts. They send expeditions to the unknown wilds and the other planes in search of forgotten histories, magical secrets and to understand the unknown. Some may wish to wish to trigger a magic and science-based industrial revolution. Within the knowledge guilds, there are three sub-groups and within each different philosophies on how to deal with the situation in Kildar
The Knowledge Factions can be divided into three sub factions:
The Druid Circles of Kildar, Guardians and interpreters of nature’s mysteries, focused on preserving balance while cautiously embracing new magical developments.
The Intellectual Institutions, Scholarly bodies devoted to empirical research, systematic analysis, and understanding through science and factual inquiry.
The Conclave of Mages, Powerful arcane practitioners pushing the boundaries of magic and exploring its limits and possibilities.
Worldview
The Knowledge Factions are united by a belief that knowledge itself is the greatest power. One that must be pursued responsibly and shared wisely. They value curiosity, discipline, and collaboration but differ in how to balance innovation with caution.
Perspectives on Current Events:
Shadowfellian Exodus: Seen as both a threat and an opportunity—bringing new dangers but also knowledge of planar forces.
Return of the Fey: Met with fascination and wariness, as ancient Fey magic could be either an ally or a source of chaos.
Planar Magic: Sparks heated debate—some advocate embracing it as a new frontier, others fear its unpredictable consequences.
Structure & people
The Council of Knowledge
At the heart of the Knowledge Factions lies the Council, a body formed to coordinate the use of their collective resources. It is composed of three influential leaders, each representing their subfaction’s philosophy and approach to knowledge:
The Archdruid: Elara Wavecaller represents the Druid Circles of Kildar
A wise leader devoted to understanding nature and its mysteries. Elara believes that the deepest knowledge comes from the balance of the ecosystem itself and that nature is the greatest teacher. The Archemage:Vaerith Emberclaw represents the Conclave of Mages
A brilliant mage dedicated to mastering the arcane arts. He sees knowledge as a means to push the boundaries of reality and deeply understand the fundamentals of magic. The High Researcher: (to be written) represents the Intellectual Institutions
An impartial scientist focused on gathering and analyzing facts. Their approach is analytical and systematic, aimed at discovering objective truths through research and experimentation.
These three leaders meet regularly in the Council of Knowledge to deliberate on how to best use their combined resources. They discuss ways to integrate their fields to advance progress and minimize conflicts. Despite often having differing perspectives, they recognize the importance of collaboration and information sharing.
Resource Allocation Protocol
The Council has developed strict protocols for requesting and granting access to knowledge or technologies. Factions seeking permission must submit detailed proposals outlining their goals, anticipated outcomes, and required resources. The Council evaluates these requests based on their potential benefit to the community as a whole.
Internal Tensions
Tensions sometimes flare within the coalition. Some factions accuse others of monopolizing knowledge or hoarding secrets, while others fear the Council wields too much control over intellectual freedom. Nonetheless, the Council of Knowledge remains an essential institution striving to maintain balance and foster advancement in Kildar.
Deal with Dragons
Several members of the Conclave of Wizards and representatives of the mighty Intellectual Institutions have struck a secret agreement with a select number of metallic dragons. This deal was born from mutual interest: the mortal scholars yearn for the hidden knowledge locked away in the artifacts of ancient dragon hoards, while the dragons themselves face a growing threat from dragon hunters—most notably the dreaded Shadowfell elves, who have set their sights on the eradication of dragonkind.
The agreement works as follows: the dragons permit the magi and researchers to study, catalogue, and—in some cases—temporarily use part of their artifacts to enrich their theoretical knowledge and arcane experiments. In exchange, each dragon that participates receives a powerful and carefully chosen artifact, enhanced with new magical bindings by the institutes or the Conclave. This artifact serves not only as a symbol of trust but also as a tool that can considerably augment their might.
More important still, the wizards and their academies have vowed to protect their allied dragons against the Shadowfell elven dragon hunters. With their vast network of spies, magical wards, and sealed sanctuaries, they offer the dragons safe havens and early warnings whenever an attack looms. In this way, a fragile yet invaluable alliance is forged between mortal seekers of knowledge and the immortal guardians of ancient treasures.
