Overall
Elvish district is an Arland's home to the city’s most skilled artisans, renowned scholars, and the iconic Colosseum—center of both refined duels and brutal contests.
Layout
Inland and rising gently above the harbour lies the Elvish District—a realm of beauty, balance, and quiet magic. Winding stone paths weave through spires of white and green marble, their graceful forms designed to blend seamlessly with the natural world rather than conquer it. This harmony with nature deepens as one moves westward, toward the edge of the Arland Forest. There, treehouses perch among the high branches, home to many of the city’s Wood Elves. Gnomes and halflings, drawn to the district’s serenity, have nestled themselves into the small, rounded hills that dot the forest fringe, crafting cozy dwellings that seem to grow from the earth itself.
Water plays a central role in shaping both the livability and charm of the district. It flows through tranquil reflective pools and narrow artificial channels, nourishing lush gardens and creating a sense of calm throughout the city. Elegant bridges arch gracefully over these waterways, adding to the district’s storybook allure. This water comes partly from deep groundwater sources and partly through magical purification of seawater drawn from the coast.
The eastern side of the district, closer to the Harbor, reflects a more cosmopolitan influence. Here, buildings designed by non-elven architects stand with quiet pride, permitted under strict conditions: they must honor nature, meet elven standards of beauty, and harmonize with the surrounding aesthetic. Few manage this delicate balance, but those who do often create architectural masterpieces that become landmarks in their own right.
Towering above all is the Colosseum—the grandest structure in Arland and the city’s living heart. Blending high art with raw tradition, it stands as a symbol of the union between High Elves and Wood Elves, intellect and instinct, and the ever-present tension between elegance and survival.
Population
The Elvish District is home to Arland’s most educated, refined, and accomplished residents. Living within its elegant bounds is not a matter of wealth alone—it is a privilege earned through mastery, reputation, and meaningful contribution to the city’s cultural and intellectual legacy. Only those who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields may be granted residence here, making the district a sanctuary for excellence.
Here dwell the finest artisans whose creations are both practical marvels and works of art; silver-tongued rhetoricians whose words can sway courts and councils; visionary artists whose works stir emotion and thought; powerful mages who have mastered complex schools of arcane study; and elite warriors whose discipline and technique are held as models of perfection. This convergence of brilliance makes the Elvish District not only a place of beauty, but also a center of inspiration, innovation, and influence within Arland—and beyond.
The level of crime in Arland’s Elvish District is notably low. With sharp-eyed Wood Elf sentinels patrolling the streets—many of whom can spot trouble before it even begins—petty theft and robbery are rare. Moreover, the general population here lives comfortably enough that desperation-driven crime is uncommon. While some might expect opportunists from the Harbor District to cause trouble, they are strongly discouraged by an unusual local custom: should someone commit a crime or act with serious disrespect, the victim may formally challenge them to a duel (which can be in groups) in the Colosseum. And not just any duel—these are fought under Wood Elf traditions: to the death. Declining such a challenge is allowed, but comes with consequences. Depending on the severity of the offense, the accused must either leave the city or submit to judgment in the court.
However, the city is not entirely shielded from high-level criminal schemes. One infamous case still echoes through the halls of the Elvish District—when some of its brightest minds poured fortunes into a so-called revolutionary device known as Terrablood. Marketed as a marvel of arcano-biological engineering, Terrablood promised to convert spilled blood into raw magical energy capable of restoring spell slots. The idea was disturbingly compelling, especially in a city where the Colosseum provides a near-constant flow of blood. Unfortunately, from the very beginning, it was nothing more than an elaborate investment scam—built on forged research, illusion magic, and carefully staged demonstrations.
Economy
From an economic perspective, Elvish discrtict is known for several major areas:
1) High-Value Craftsmanship
The most prestigious sector of the Elvish District is the creation of high-value, often one-of-a-kind items. Foremost among these are works of art—paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, and performances crafted by artists who draw deep inspiration from Arland’s serene natural surroundings and the vibrant creative community around them. Yet artistry here extends beyond aesthetics. Exquisite weapons, masterfully carved furniture, finely tuned instruments, elegantly tailored garments, and other practical masterpieces are also produced. Each item reflects the district’s core principles: beauty, mastery, and harmony with nature.
2) Education and Mastery
The second cornerstone of the district’s economy is education. With so many masters of their craft gathered in one place, teaching becomes both a duty and a lucrative enterprise. Students from across the region travel to Arland to study under renowned artisans, musicians, philosophers, and mages. While art and craft are central, martial and magical instruction also flourish—particularly combat styles shaped by the local Colosseum's traditions. Though Arland may not rival the arcane breadth of Brell or the academic rigor of the capital, it offers something rarer: the time-honored teachings and deep-rooted wisdom of the Elves, passed down through centuries of lived experience.
3) Colosseum
The third major source of income for Arland is, unsurprisingly, the Colosseum. It draws substantial revenue through entrance fees, wagers, and sponsorships, attracting spectators from across the continent eager to witness the legendary duels within its walls. While primarily known for its martial spectacles—both the elegant, ritualized combat of the High Elves and the brutal survival matches of the Wild Elves—the Colosseum occasionally hosts grand artistic performances as well. However, such events are rare and reserved only for the most renowned performers, whose fame and skill are deemed worthy of sharing the arena's sacred stage.
4) Alchemy
Alchemy remains a significant, if smaller, source of income for Arland. Its proximity to the largest forest in Kildar grants access to a wealth of herbs, flowers, and other rare materials. Yet Arland’s alchemists are primarily researchers, more devoted to discovery than mass production. Many also refuse to overharvest, valuing the preservation of the surrounding nature. As a result, Arland is the leading center of alchemical innovation—most breakthroughs originate here, and the finest potions can be found in the city, though only in limited supply. For more common brews, Stormhaven is the place to go, where alchemy is practiced on a much larger scale.
Another key factor is Arland’s connection to Il-Heban. The desert capital has recently developed a flourishing glass industry and now produces the finest alchemical equipment in Kildar. Many of Arland’s recent advances in alchemy were only possible thanks to Il-Heban’s breakthroughs in precision glassware.
