Table Rules & Playing Guidelines

General Table Rules

  1. When doing something that would affect other player characters (like helping, casting a spell, feeding potions, etc.), always ask for their consent first. Never just assume that they will agree.

  2. Critical hits and fumbles (as in natural 20s and natural 1s) will only be used on the attack roll. They don’t mean auto-success or auto-fail on ability checks, saving throws or other rolls.

  3. A critical hit will double the amount of damage dice that can be rolled

  4. Consuming a potion on your own character is a Bonus Action

  5. Feeding a potion to another character is also a Bonus Action

  6. Regaining hit points by drinking a potion is always rolled, even if you’re out of combat.

  7. Halved damage will always be rounded down

  8. Death saves: The player decides who rolls and whether to reveal the result.

  9. Loot gained in sessions held by a DM not hosting a Kildar session can be requested to be transferred with Tim.

  10. Flanking will not be used as they are not part of the 2024 rules.

  11. Player vs Player: we strongly discourage this. Only with the explicit consent of all parties involved can this happen. Make sure you talk to your fellow players and DM well in advance about this, so no one gets surprised by during the session and put on the spot.

  12. Any deviation from the rules needs to be discussed with a DM and be documented.

Character Rules

For instructions on how to create your character please refer to the Character Creation Guidelines.

While creating your character, please pay attention to the following:

  1. Each player joining the Spelslot campaign must create their character on D&D Beyond in our D&D Beyond Campaign.

    • You will be provided with the right content through one of our D&D Beyond campaigns.

    • We try to verify characters where possible. Someone might reach out to you if an aspect of your character that needs a little tweaking. We will work with you to implement the necessary changes.

  2. We ask players to make a character that is fun for everyone; please refrain from potential 'broken' builds that will possibly disbalance combat or roleplaying encounters.

  3. Homebrew is generally not allowed for players.

    • A request for certain homebrew can be made to the DM’s, all DMs will need to agree.

    • Reskinning might be allowed on a case to case basis with DM approval

  4. We expect you to be able to show your DM how your character's abilities and equipment work (via character sheet, D&D Beyond, cards, etc.)

  5. Leveling up is done at the end of each month. This way all players, including new ones, play at the same level. Check which level your should be in the Leveling and Loot Calendar

  6. Your character can die. After failing your 3rd death save, your character is dead. They may be able to be brought back as per the abilities and spells within the game.

  7. If at any time you don’t like any options of your character, or even your whole character. You can work with the DM’s to change your character, or make a new character.
