The Inquisition Armed Forces (working title)
The Military wing of the Inquisition. It started out as a small paramilitary force of like-minded individuals, fighting against evil in the world, and grew into the enormous organization it is today. The military wing is still the part that citizens are the most familiar with.
The different subdivisions within can generally be categorized into two types:
Local chapters, which guard the region in which they're based against evil magic.
Specialized Orders, who ride out from their home bases for operations in their specialized fields.
Ranks within the Inquisition
Inquisition Initiates are new recruits of the Inquisition, warriors that have yet to prove themselves worthy to become a Templar of the Inquisition. They will act as servants, local guards and workers for their local Chapter.
Templars of the Inquisition can be assigned to that specific region. As their duties change some of these Templars might be sent out on missions or reassigned to different Chapters, while others may spend their entire life devoted to their local Chapter. Templars have numerous duties, like acting as bodyguards to Inquisitors, Mentors or other high ranking members of the Inquisition, protecting dangerous individuals from themselves and others and guarding the vital anti-magic vaults.
Knight Templars achieve their rank after serving the inquisition for a lengthy period and proving themselves in exemplary conduct and loyalty. They will then need to complete a trial, by leading a party on an extremely dangerous mission and emerging victorious.
Chapter Masters/ Order Masters. They report only to the Grand Master of the Inquisition. Each Master will have an administrative staff to support them in overseeing the chapters or orders activities. They will have access to a force of Initiates, Templars, Hunters and Watchers.
Local Chapters
The Eldritch Inquisition have local bases of operations in each region that will condone their presence. These bases of operations will usually take the form of fortified Chapter Keeps, located near regional or national capitals. The largest and these is known as the Grand Temple of the Inquisition which is located in Stormhaven and serves as the Inquisition’s headquarters. Inside will be anti-magical vaults and prisons that are well guarded by the Inquisition. They will hold magical prisoners and items deemed too dangerous to be out in the greater world. Some of these prisoners come here freely, to be protected from their own inherent powers. The keeps will also provide lodgings to members, as well as training grounds for initiates and their trainers.
Most if not all settlements of townships or larger may have Inquisition safe houses that provide a safe place to sleep and a place to resupply. These safe houses may also house Templars for longer periods of time. Some smaller villages may have simple stashes of equipment hidden somewhere that may include items like spell scrolls, potions and rations.
The most famous chapter is the Ironhold Chapter, which provides the eldritch inquisition with a steady supply of weaponry, to make the organization less dependent on the guilds.
Specialized Orders
When a threat is too great for the Inquisitorial Intelligence Network or local chapters to deal with on their own, they will send a request for reinforcements to specialized Orders within the Inquisition. These specialized orders then ride out from their home bases to deal with situations in their specialized fields. These Orders will also often send out their own people, to hunt down threats. Notable orders are:
The Gateway Custodians, who guard the ancient portal network.
The McTennite Family, who specialize in hunting vampires and other undead.
The Order of Saint Muriel, which specializes in hunting werewolves and lycanthropy.
The Order of the Black Shield, which specializes in hunting magical artifacts.
The The Order of Stilled Voices, which specializes in hunting Hags
