The Inquisitorial Intelligence Network
The Inquisitorial Intelligence Network is vast intelligence apparatus that spies on the citizens of Kildar, searching for any sign of evil magic. It mostly operates hidden, with spies everywhere and a grand propaganda campaign to encourage citizens to report 'evil' wherever they see it.
This intelligence network is also responsible for researching the evil magic that the inquisition comes across in a 'safe' environment and confiscating research from the Knowledge Factions that the Tribunals deem too dangerous.
Rumors have it that the Inquisition (forcibly?) employs mages to use divination and scrying magic to spy on everyone. All in the name of protecting the citizens of Kildar, of course.
When word of a threat reaches the ears of the Inquisition Hunters from the Inquisitorial Intelligence Network will scout ahead towards dangerous areas, where they will often deal with the threat themselves with their party. If a threat is too big for them to deal with on their own, they might call in reinforcements from the local chapter, or from a specialized order within the Inquisition.
The Order of the Hunters
The Order within the Eldritch Inquisition that maintains the vast network of spies, who keep their ears to the ground and report their findings to the local chapter Master. They are often tasked with missions that require utmost secrecy and ruthless precision, whether it is the meticulous dismantling of cult conspiracies, infiltrating within arcane demi-planes or lairs, or neutralizing rogue magic-wielders.
Hunters tend to move from place to place, chasing down enemies and researching emerging threats. As a result, they often travel alone but they will work with others from outside their order, even if such allies are not above suspicion. Grim and determined, the Hunters roots out enemies of the Inquisition, using trickery and guile when righteousness and purity is not enough. Although Hunters are dedicated to their cause, they are above many of the normal rules and conventions of the Inquisition. Hunters answer only to the Chapter Masters, the Master of the Inquisitors and the High Inquisitor. The more pure-hearted of these Hunters may carefully heed the words of their allies and seek to do good, while other more radical Hunters may stoop to heinous acts to achieve their goals.
Inquisition Hunters generally operate relatively independent from each other, most do not even know who their fellow hunters are, all in the name of secrecy. This usually makes the local Chapter Masters the only person in their region to be have full knowledge of the vastness the regional inquisition spy-network.
While usually in disguise, when fulfilling their bureaucratic duties within the Inquisition, they can be identified by their layered, muted leather coats with high collars, pointed leather hunting hats and tall boots. Their most defining characteristic are their dark red leather gloves. To suppress their enemies, many carry heavy wooden crossbows engraved with runes.
The Order of the Watchers
The Watchers are a conclave of mages bound by rigid codes of conduct, devoted almost exclusively to the arcane school of Divination. They call it the purest form of magic: protective and watchful incantations in order to hold back the chaos of other planar realms. Their tasks revolve around the defence against extraplanar threats; they manage portal networks, secure areas where spheres between planes overlap, and defend against extraplanar incursions. They are often an unsettling sight; layered and obscuring robes heavy with arcane foci, talismans and other protective sigils.
In recent years, however, the appearance has grown far stranger, as boundaries between planes weaken and spheres of planar realms increasingly overlap, the Watchers are brought in constant proximity with transitive planes such as the Ethereal Plane and the Astral Sea. The result of this proximity is a subtle but disturbing transformation that is increasingly more common with members of the Watchers. Their form shifts based on what plane of existence has brushed off on them. Recent discoveries show that some individuals in continuous proximity with the Ethereal Plane have begun to develop ever-so-slightly translucent skin and misted eyes. Their form seems to flicker like a candle in the wind at times, as if reality cannot fully hold onto them. Similarly, those in frequent contact with the Astral Sea have begun to show signs of its influence as well, sightings include reflective pupils, a feeling of vertigo while near them, and their shadow lagging behind them ever so slightly, or pointing away from a different, unseen light source.
As of yet, it remains unclear why these transformations are happening and what their implications may be. Although, some fear that these influences may extend beyond mere changes in appearance.
Watchers perform several tasks within the Inquisition:
They are sent forth (individually or in a group) on specialized missions. To cleanse corrupted regions or to deal with incursions from other planes of existence
The watchers maintain immense archives of forbidden texts, testimony, and magical case files. Every encounter with extraplanar corruption is meticulously catalogued. These records serve both as a warning and as a practical guide to combating repeating patterns of extraplanar threats. The archives are often inscribed with sigils of suppression, ensuring that the material can be studied safely without risk of contamination.
Many Watchers dedicate themselves to constant scrying, augury, and sanctioned prophecy. They act as the Inquisition’s eyes across the world, seeking out traces of corruption before it takes root. Some use vast astrolabes, crystal lattices, or sacred pools to peer into the Astral Sea, while others specialize in reading patterns in natural phenomena — the flight of birds, the alignment of stars, or the cracks in stone.
