The Beehive Inn

Varina’s Warmest Sanctuary

Nestled in the heart of Varina, the Beehive Inn is one of the city’s most beloved and welcoming establishments. Located on a quiet cobbled street, the inn is surrounded by lush gardens of wildflowers, lavender, and honeybee hives that hum gently in the breeze. The inn is a favorite spot for travelers, adventurers, and locals alike, offering comfort and cheer to all who pass through its doors.

Exterior:

The inn’s exterior is charmingly rustic, with warm golden stone walls covered in creeping ivy and brightly painted window shutters. Its signature bee-shaped sign hangs proudly above the entrance, crafted from wrought iron and wood, gently swaying with the wind. Outside, the entrance is framed by two oak barrels overflowing with flowers, and a honeybee motif is subtly incorporated into the building’s décor—carved into beams, etched into the glass windows, and woven into the design of the doorknobs.

Layout:

  • Ground Floor:

    • Main Tavern Hall: The heart of the Beehive Inn is its tavern—a large, open room with warm wooden floors, stone walls, and exposed beams on the ceiling. The smell of roasted meats, honeyed desserts, and freshly baked bread fills the air. Cozy round tables and plush chairs are spread throughout, with a central hearth crackling gently, giving the room a warm golden glow. Above the bar, glass bottles of mead, ale, and fine wine glimmer in the low light.

      • The Bar: A long polished wooden bar stretches across one side of the tavern, behind which Jasper Hawke can often be found, serving drinks and sharing stories with patrons. The bar is adorned with brass fixtures and has an intricate mural of a beehive and flowers behind it. The Beehive’s famous honeyed mead is brewed in-house, and jars of the inn’s own honey are proudly displayed on the shelves.

      • Stage Area: In one corner of the tavern, a small stage is set up for performances. This is where Liora Vale’s songs are often played by local bards, and Vesper Thornhart sometimes joins in, humming along to the melodies. A painting of Liora Vale, framed in gold, hangs prominently on the wall near the stage—a tribute to Vesper’s favorite bard.

  • Private Lounge: A quieter, more intimate room behind the main tavern is reserved for private gatherings. With velvet sofas, a small fireplace, and elegant decor, the lounge is a place where patrons can share their stories with Jasper in a more personal setting. This is where people often come to confide in the innkeeper, seeking advice or just someone to listen.

  • Guest Rooms (Second Floor): The upper floor houses six guest rooms, each decorated with plush bedding, intricate wooden furniture, and windows overlooking the garden or street below. Every room has a honey-themed touch, whether in the form of bee-patterned curtains or honeycomb-shaped shelves. Cleanliness is paramount, and the rooms are immaculately kept, reflecting both Jasper and Vesper's meticulous standards. Fresh flowers, usually from their garden, adorn the bedside tables, adding a sweet fragrance to the air.

  • Beehive Garden: Behind the inn, there is a beautiful garden, lush with wildflowers, fruit trees, and, of course, several beehives. The garden is a serene space where guests can relax, enjoy their drinks, or take a stroll. Vesper often tends to the hives, carefully collecting honey, which is a key ingredient in many of the inn’s dishes and drinks.

Menu and Drinks:

  • Honey-Glazed Roast Chicken – A local favorite, roasted to perfection with a sweet honey glaze.

  • Golden Honeybread – A soft, sweet bread served with whipped butter and a drizzle of the Beehive’s signature honey.

  • Herbed Honey Mead – The house specialty, made with their own honey and infused with subtle herbs for a refreshing finish.

  • Sweetberry Pies – Freshly baked pies filled with berries from the inn’s garden, served with a dollop of honey cream.

The Innkeepers:

  • Jasper Librove: The heart and soul of the Beehive, Jasper is always full of ideas to improve the inn, whether it’s adding a rooftop terrace or hosting a grand festival. He greets every guest with a radiant smile, and his natural charisma makes everyone feel at home. His listening ear and ability to offer sage advice turn the Beehive into a refuge for travelers seeking more than just a bed and meal.

  • Vesper Thornhart: Vesper spends most of his time healing in Thornwood, but when he’s at the inn, he helps Jasper with the running of the Beehive. Vesper is more practical, and while he may sigh at Jasper’s grand ideas, he always supports him. His love for Liora Vale’s music adds to the inn’s charm, and his presence brings a peaceful, calming energy to the place.

  • Maela Librove: Jasper's mother handles all the cooking, adding a warm and homely touch to the establishment. Her culinary skills are renowned among patrons, ensuring that the inn remains a popular destination for travelers and locals alike.

Unique Features:

  • Song Evenings: Every week, the Beehive hosts "Song Evenings," where locals and travelers alike gather to sing or perform. Vesper occasionally takes to the stage to sing Liora Vale’s ballads, much to the delight of patrons. These nights are known for their joy and warmth, often ending with everyone dancing late into the night.

  • Dancing Nights: On special occasions, Jasper and Vesper host Dancing Nights, where the tables are pushed aside to make room for dancing. These lively events bring the community together, and the couple themselves are known for their graceful, loving dances.

Lux Thornhart- Librove: :

Their adopted daughter Lux, a dragonborn, is the Beehive’s unofficial guardian. She’s proud of her family and often helps around the inn. Though she’s still discovering her own path, she finds comfort in the warmth of her home and the love her fathers share.
