Religion

Gnomes do not typically partake in standard religious practices. In fact, they treat religion more like warlocks treat their patrons. For a gnome, a prayer is a suggested contract where they propose a bargain. If the god in question keeps their end of the deal, the gnome in question is then obliged to fulfill their end. If the god in question does not keep their end of the deal, well then the god has declined the contract and a new bargain must be proposed. The Gnomes often take this type of worship with them when they worship other Gods of the Pantheon, which is sometimes frowned upon depending on the followers of the god in question.

Their chief deity in the Pantheon, Garl Glittergold, is viewed as the greatest pactmaker there is. Garl’s clerics and paladins will often ask for sums of gold in exchange for prayers, healing spells and other services. This gold will then be used to appease Garl, the Lord of the Gold Hills.

On the 13th day of each month, the Gnomes hold the Communion of Laughter in his honor. It consisted of joke-telling contests, communal meals, dancing, prayers, and storytelling, and donations of gold. The Gnomes often conclude this worship by throwing requests and prayers into a large fire that the Gnomes proceed to dance around until the earliest light. If in the coming month their request and prayer was answered, then clearly they appeased Garl or one of his Aspects with their payment of dance, song and gold. And if not, then better luck next month!
