A lot of Gnomes have backgrounds as artisans, hermits and guides. Gnomes that have artisan backgrounds often become masters of their profession. These professions often involve brewing drinks, potions or poisons. Just as often Gnomes have backgrounds as hermits, living just far enough away from villages and hamlets that they’re not disturbed, but can still sell their brews and potions to the locals. Finally, gnomes also often become guides, with Rock Gnomes acting as mountaineers, Deep Gnomes as dungeoneers and Forest Gnomes acting as woodland or Feywild guides.

Most Gnomes are lovers and not fighters. Gnome adventurers generally prefer charismatic roles where they can talk their way out of a fight, or talk a friend into fighting for them.

Culturally, gnomes have truly embraced the act of brewing and mixing chemicals. They have discovered that they can use magical potions to level the playing field in combat with other species, and that they can make a living from selling these potions to their allies. As such, Gnomes have begun to place high societal value in educating their young in these manners. These Gnomes particularly make good alchemists, brewers and poisoners. Adventurers will often seek out Gnomes particularly for their high standard of brews, and because of this demand Gnomes are often numerous in the Guilds associated with these professions.

Gnomes place high value in their headwear. It is often elaborate and highly decorated. Having a good hat is often related to social standing among Gnomes, both Forest and Rock. All aspects of a hat are measured: width, height, length, color, decorations and practicality, like pockets.

Forest Gnomes favor nature themed headwear with decorative flowers and feathers. These hats often feature secret pockets and storage spaces. Rock Gnomes favor Steampunk hats with goggles, bolts and cogs with interesting functionalities. Pointy and floppy witch and wizard hats are also great fashionable choices for gnomes. Some Forest Gnomes even wear hats made entirely out of large, magical mushrooms.
