The bard academy in Sunnyspire Quarter is known as Jared University.
It's named after Jared with an H, a notoriously terrible bard whose performances were infamous for their lack of skill. Yet, despite his musical shortcomings, Jared was beloved by the people for his infectious enthusiasm and unyielding spirit. His charm lay in his ability to bring joy and laughter, even if it wasn't through talent.
Jared University is considered a prestigious institution where bards of all backgrounds come to study the arts of music, storytelling, and performance. It embraces the idea that passion and creativity are just as important as technical skill, and it’s a place where even the most unconventional talents can flourish.
The story behind the buildings shape and nickname, is that when the academy was being founded, the professors had a heated debate about how to spell Jared's name, particularly where to place the letter "h". Unable to reach a consensus, they decided to leave the "h" out entirely. In a twist of irony and in homage to the bard’s chaotic legacy, they constructed the academy building itself in the shape of the letter "H". This unusual design has since become a symbol of the academy's quirky and inclusive spirit.
The university is divided into four houses, each catering to a different bardic specialization:
1. House Lyricia (College of Lore)
Focus: Scholars and storytellers.
House Colors: Blue and Silver
Traits: Intellectual curiosity, a deep appreciation for history and legends, and mastery of knowledge.
2. House Rhythmera (College of Dance)
Focus: Performers and enchanters.
House Colors: Gold and Black
Traits: Charismatic, captivating performers who dance to charm and inspire.
3. House Heroica (College of Valor)
Focus: Warrior-bards.
House Colors: Red and Gold
Traits: Courageous, inspiring leaders skilled in both combat and song, motivating others on the battlefield.
4. House Illustra (College of Glamour)
Focus: Bedazzlement and illusions.
House Colors: Green and Silver
Traits: Extravagant , these bards use blend music with illusion to manipulate, deceive, and gather information.
Each house fosters a unique culture, encouraging students to excel in their respective bardic paths while contributing to the rich tapestry of Jared University’s legacy.
Building
Barlow, Jared's second cousin attends this university. Unbeknownst to the staff and most other students, he goes out every night to move the H in the name of the building to another place.
Events
Headmistress Lyssara Palequill replaced the previous headmaster after he dissapeared under mysterious circumstances a few months ago in July of 604. In September 604 mysterious figures visited the academy giving her instructions, after which strange events started to occur. Missing students, fires so hot they could match the heat of the lower planes. Books on necromancy missing from the library.
In October 604, adventurers bursting into her office found her in the middle of a pentagram with the body of a dead student. A battle ensued in which the adventurers killed the headmistress.
