The Oathstone Clan
Central to the Oathstone Clan’s identity is the concept of being Oathsworn—a term that refers to those who have taken a solemn vow to uphold the clan’s values and protect the land of Kildar. Every member of the clan, from the youngest child to the oldest elder, is expected to take an oath at the Forge of Vows, a sacred place within Blackstone Hold where the flames of justice are said to burn eternally.
The Forge of Vows is both a literal forge and a symbolic place of commitment. Here, the weapons and armor of the clan’s paladins are crafted, each piece forged with the intent of upholding justice and defending the weak. The process of forging a weapon at the Forge of Vows is a deeply spiritual experience, with each item imbued with the strength of the oaths sworn over it. The clan’s most revered blacksmiths, known as Vowbinders, are said to possess the ability to weave these oaths into the very metal they work with, creating weapons of extraordinary power and significance.
Cragshadow Clan
The Cragshadow Clan, masters of tactics and subterfuge. Their stronghold, Cragshadow Hold, is a hidden fortress guarded by complex traps and concealed entrances, known only to the Cragshadow dwarves. The clan is governed by the Council of Shadows, a secretive body that wields power through covert operations and strategic alliances. Despite their isolation, the Cragshadow Clan maintains a network of advisers who influence the human kingdoms and other races, ensuring their influence extends far beyond their hidden halls.
Embercleft Clan
The Embercleft Clan, renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, resides within Mount Ember, a dormant volcano that serves as both their home and forge. Their stronghold, Embercleft Fortress, houses the Forgeheart, where the clan’s most skilled smiths create weapons and armor of legendary quality. The Embercleft dwarves are not only master crafters but also fierce warriors, their creations sought after by rulers and armies across Kildar. The clan’s warriors often serve as elite shock troops, their fiery spirit and unmatched craftsmanship making them a formidable force on the battlefield.
Stonehearth Clan
The Stonehearth Clan is the epitome of dwarven tradition and resilience. Their stronghold, Ironroot Bastion, is a fortress carved deep into the granite heart of the Ironpeak Mountains. The clan is governed by the Council of Elders, who uphold the clan’s ancient customs and laws. The Hall of the Ancestors and the Wall of Remembrance are sacred sites within the stronghold, where the names of those who perished in the Great Calamity are inscribed. The Stonehearth dwarves place immense value on honor, discipline, and the preservation of their heritage, seeing themselves as the guardians of dwarven tradition.
The Grimbrand Clan
Once a noble and respected clan, the Grimbrand dwarves fell into darkness after forging a pact with Hadar during the Great Calamity. This pact granted them immense power but at the cost of their souls. The Grimbrand dwarves were used to backstab and murder other dwarven clans. However, with Hadar’s defeat, the Grimbrand Clan was nearly destroyed, their numbers decimated, and their stronghold left in ruins. The few survivors are scattered and live in hiding, shunned by their kin. The legacy of the Grimbrand Clan is a cautionary tale, a reminder of the dangers of unchecked ambition and the high price of power.
