OPS stands for the Owlbear Protection Society. A radical offshoot within the Druid Circles of Kildar. "Owlbears are almost extinct so we must protect them." is what the members of the Owlbear Protection Society say.

The Owlbear Protection Society (OPS) is a unique organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of the elusive and often misunderstood owlbears. Despite the society's focus on a rather niche cause, it wields considerable influence, owing to the brilliance and eccentricity of its founder and leader, Stannum Lovelace.

The OPS are mainly concerned with adding more Owlbears to our great country through a breeding program but also take action against people who disturb the creatures. They are known for inflicting heavy penalties like fines or sending killsquads after wrongdoers.

Stannum Lovelace 65 - Human Wizard

Founder and Head of the Owlbear Protection Society.

A brilliant but eccentric wizard, known for his deep love of owlbears and his unconventional methods of protecting them. With wild silver hair and a penchant for wearing robes covered in owlbear motifs, Stannum is both a respected scholar and an endearing oddball in the magical community. His expertise in magical creatures is unmatched, and he’s dedicated his life to ensuring that owlbears are not hunted or mistreated. Despite his peculiarities, Stannum is fiercely intelligent and driven by a deep sense of empathy for all magical creatures.

Elijah Endstein 115 - Human Vampire & Scientist

Born 35, and 36 years before the Crimson Dusk. Elijah Endstein and Felicia Frank both came from wealthy noble families, with old money. They met in their ecology course at the University in Torrica, having both been fascinated with nature from a young age. Drawn to each other like magnets the two became inseparable. Going on ecological expeditions, to study monsters in their natural habitat, and bringing home all sorts of magical herbs and artifacts to experiment with. During one of their expeditions they met Stannum. A wizard deeply troubled by the slow dwindling of the owlbear population. Stannum. Agreeing that something needed to be done, Elijah and Felicia agreed to provide the funds needed for the establishing and operating of the Owlbear Protection Society, becoming the first financiers, and to this day, one of the largest contributors to the organization.

Leaving the activism and organizing of the O.P.S. to Stannum, Elijah and his wife Felicia Frank sought to prevent the extinction of the Owlbears through scientific means, aiming their sights on Necromancy. For if Owlbears couldn't die, they couldn't go extinct. Unfortunately a group of adventurers stumbled upon their laboratory and decided that they were right and Elijah and Felicia were wrong. In the struggle that followed Elijah and his Wife were seperated in their attempted escape. Elijah found his wife sometime later, in the hallways of the laboratory, put to the sword by the Adventurers. With his wifes body in a frozen state, Elijah is attempting to perfect his scientific craft of necromancy to bring back his wife and to prevent the extinction of Owlbears permanently, even going as far as to seek out the help of Destro Fortica, to voluntarily become a vampire, see if vampirism was a possible solution.

Elijah now toils away in his mansion, a days ride from Stormhaven, desperately seeking for a way to bring back his beloved Felicia.

Cornelia Jacobs 66 - Human Cleric

Co-Leader and Chief Strategist of the Owlbear Protection Society.

Cornelia Jacobs is Stannum’s wife and a brilliant cleric who serves as the true mastermind behind the Owlbear Protection Society. With a calm demeanor and sharp intellect, Cornelia often guides the society's strategies and operations, ensuring that Stannum’s passion is channeled effectively. She is not only smarter than her husband but also possesses a deep well of wisdom and practical knowledge, which she uses to navigate the society through political and social challenges. Cornelia is a natural leader, beloved by members of the OPS for her kindness and unyielding dedication to the cause.

Eleanor Lovelace 40 - Human Sorceress

the eldest daughter, is a prodigious sorceress who inherited both her father's magical talents and her mother’s intellect. She is deeply involved in the society's research division, using her powers to study owlbears in their natural habitats and develop protective enchantments for them. Despite her youth, Eleanor is already making significant contributions to magical academia, much like her parents.

Isabella Lovelace 35 - Human Druid

The younger daughter, chose a path closer to nature, becoming a skilled druid with a particular affinity for owlbears. She often works directly with the creatures, caring for injured or orphaned owlbears and ensuring they can be safely released back into the wild. Isabella’s connection to the natural world is profound, and she serves as the heart of the society, often advocating for even more radical conservation efforts.

One of the operatives deployed in the feywild. He leads the efforts there to help relocate owlbears into Kildar. A physically strong and handsome man with a short and stout build and long darrk curly hair. Bronzed skin from walking around bare-chested most of the time, his body is decorated with many tatoos depicting his life and many exploits.

The Society’s Operations

They employ a combination of magical wards, political lobbying, and public education to ensure that owlbears can thrive in the wild. The society is also known for its sanctuaries, where owlbears can live safely under the watchful care of druids and other magical caretakers.

Headquarters

The Owlbear Protection Society operates out of a large, enchanted grove on the outskirts of the city. The headquarters is a sprawling, forested estate where owlbears roam freely, protected by magical barriers and patrolled by druids and rangers. The Lovelace family resides in a grand, ivy-covered manor at the center of the estate, where they host meetings, conduct research, and manage the society’s affairs

Historical significance

In the Battle of Bimarat the OPS is known to have joined the fight together with their precious Owlbears to ride into battle and help defeat the great evil.
