The Prowlpeaks range is a perilous mountain region north of Rhyl, famed for its potentially rich veins of iron and coal but dreaded for its deadly environment. Its most notable settlement is Prowlpeak Haven, a dwarven outpost built on its lower slopes.

History

The instability of the Prowlpeaks has long puzzled scholars and miners alike. Some argue that the region grew more dangerous after a gradual cooling of the climate, while others believe the settlers were deceived by a mild summer when they first arrived. Still others hold that the mountains were once bound together by forests, their roots holding the rocks in place until they were cut down for lumber.

Geography

The mountains are treacherous in every season. Snow covers them for much of the year, and in winter it gathers in such immense quantities that the slopes can barely contain it. Avalanches are frequent, sometimes triggered by something as small as a raised voice. Summer brings no relief, for the jagged crags crumble easily, sending rockslides crashing down on anyone in their path. Fierce winds and freezing temperatures sweep through the range at all times of year, making survival without shelter nearly impossible.

Culture

The harsh realities of the range have given rise to strict traditions in Prowlpeak Haven. The prohibitions against climbing and speaking outdoors are not merely laws but lessons, passed from one generation of Dwarves to the next as part of their training. For this reason, the Prowlpeaks are remembered not only as a place of danger, but also as a crucible where Dwarves learn resilience, discipline, and respect for the unforgiving mountains.
