Knowledge Factions
The Circle of Crags is a loose scholarly fellowship under the Intellectual Institutions devoted to the study of Prowlpeak's geological instability. Comprised of dwarves from Rhyl and a handful of surface scholars, the Circle attempts to answer the central question of the region: why are the slopes of Prowlpeak so fragile?
Circle members regularly send expeditions to observe landslides, measure snowpack, and collect rock samples, though their work is hindered by the strict laws of Prowlpeak Haven. Much to their irritation, they must remain below the village’s boundaries, forbidden from climbing higher to study the upper slopes. Much of their research therefore relies on second-hand reports, careful observation from a distance, and data gathered in the tunnels of the mines.
Commerce Factions
The Miners Guild, which has a presence in Prowlpeak Haven, often regards them with suspicion since the Circle’s theories sometimes contradict the economic interests of mining. If the instability could be tied directly to mining practices, deforestation, or mismanagement, the Miners’ Guild would stand to lose face and profit. This tension occasionally flares into open disputes in the Council of Guilds where the Circle presses for greater caution and the guild demands continued output.
