The history of Sarnout is divided into two great epochs: before the Night of Astral Portals and after it.

Once, Sarnout was a complete, unbroken world, where wind and rain followed only the laws of nature, untouched by the fearsome will of the Astral. That old world was something out of fairy tales, the kind our people now tell their children.

The first races to spread across Sarnout were the Elves and the Empire of Džun.

The earliest recorded date in Sarnout’s written history goes back to the year 350 Before the Grand Cataclysm (BGC). The Chronology of Sarnout, first compiled by the Great Mage and Historian Nayan, and later expanded by the Arisen scientist Nomarch Avilar, begins with the birth of the elves — the very first intelligent race of Sarnout, at least according to their own records.

To the elves, beauty was not just an ideal — it was the guiding principle of their existence. It defined their actions, their philosophy, their very way of life.

But as they explored the world, they began to encounter imperfections — blemishes upon reality itself. And the more they ventured, the more they found. Ugliness lurked everywhere. And so, at some point, the elves took it upon themselves to reshape the world, to mold it into a vision that matched their mesmerizing, naive ideal of perfection. Thus began the War for Beauty.

According to Nayan, the elves were doomed from the start. The further they traveled in their pursuit of perfection, the more enemies they made.
