Elven allods
/

From the adventure notes of Danas, hero of Kania

If on Grokh the Great Mage is Claude de Vevre, then on Andis, the allod is held by his cousin -- Catherine de Vevre.

It might seem that it is Vevre here and Vevre there, but the difference, I tell you, is quite striking.

Andis was originally a Kanian province; however, before the Night of Portals, it came to pass that the only sorcerous tower standing here -- Rachl-Andis -- was occupied by this elven lady, who had decided to settle there with her kin.

One cannot deny that Catherine is capable -- she held the island and allowed no one to perish. Yet as soon as the dust had settled, the elves began to impose their own ways.

There were local nobles here, but the elves managed to do away with them. Some were left to wither in the dungeons, while others were simply driven away to other allods.

The elves took over their estates, rebuilt everything to suit their own tastes, and began to oppress the Kanians.

In what manner? It was quite simple -- they seized most of the land, established plantations, and forced the peasants to labor upon them.

While our folk often find it a heavy burden to pay their taxes and must give up their last coin, here it is far worse -- if you wish to eat, then you must toil on the plantations for the better part of the week.

And should you work poorly -- you shall taste the lash.

The elves keep careful accounts and overlook nothing; there is no shirking one's duties under their watch. The people endured it for a long while, but one day they saw fit to rise in revolt. They rioted, burned a few things, and plundered an estate...

However, the elves were not in a forgiving mood; they hanged everyone afterward.

Such are the deeds that take place there. I suspect that had we not reached an understanding with Claude beforehand, we would not have been allowed past the threshold. Even so, they looked upon us with no great favor, as if to say, "pitiful little humans, what business have you here?"

But I speak only of the state of affairs, and you likely wish to hear of the allod itself. Well, the land is much like any other, moderately fertile and a bit warmer than on Kvatokh, though quite tolerable. Everything grows exceptionally well; one might plant in the morning and see the crop swaying by evening. If the elves did not tyrannize the folk so, it would be a place of paradise.
