During the era of Hikut, the Zem people worshiped a deity known as Nih, the god of death, who ruled over the fate of the Spark after one’s passing. It was Nih who decided which Sparks were worthy of resurrection in a new body and which were condemned to eternal suffering.

Now, however, almost all of the Arisen are atheists and non-believers. The fate of each Spark is undeniable proof that Nih does not exist — only Knowledge and Magic hold power over existence. Through them, one can learn to control the Spark.
