"The Chain-Breakers"

If one strips away the emotional weight of the Zem’s long history, it becomes clear that the goal set before their people thousands of years ago — achieving immortality — has been fulfilled.

The Arisen Zem have reached the state they once sought:

  • Their bodies are practically immortal.

  • Their functionality can be maintained indefinitely with prosthetic replacements.

  • Their Spark, the essence of life, differs from that of other beings in Sarnout — it is exceptionally long-lived, granting its strength for what may be an immeasurably extended lifespan.

  • The true limit of this longevity remains unknown — the oldest Arisen Zem has lived 280 years since their Second Birth.

These realizations formed the foundation of a new Doctrine, founded by Nefer Ur.

According to this doctrine, the current state of "un-life" in which the people of Zem exist is the highest form of being — the final evolutionary stage of any sentient creature.

"We, who have endured plague, death, and oblivion… We, who have risen from the grave and conquered the Astral… We are the pinnacle of creation. We are the heralds of a new existence — one without death, for death has already come. And that which is dead cannot die."
— Nefer Ur

The Doctrine of the Chain-Breakers is the official philosophy of the Zem people.

They do not hide their beliefs, yet they also do not wage any ideological war to impose them on others.

The Arisen Zem believe that, sooner or later, all other peoples will arrive at the same understanding. The doctrine is not revolutionary — it is evolutionary. Forcing others to understand something that can only be comprehended after death is foolish.

This "non-intrusive" approach has allowed the Hadaganians and Orcs to accept the worldview of the Arisen Zem without seeing it as a threat to their own future.

However, within the Chain-Breakers, there are internal disagreements and factional divisions.
