The Nightmare King

Light a flame and light it quick,
Before the Nightmare makes his pick.
Candles burning, windows bright,
Or he will take you in the night.

If your lamp goes out, you best beware,
For The Nightmare King is waiting there.
He’ll snuff your breath, he’ll still your scream,
And drag you to his shadow-dream.

The Nightmare King

is a folktale. A celebrated figure in the Covenant Grounds, but unlike the deities in The Pantheon, his worship is one out of fear. It is believed that once a year, when during the longest night, the Nightmare King walks the fog ridden streets and enters the homes of the people whose houses are not warded by light.

But that's all folktale, and not based in reality. Right?
