Circle of Root and Bone

"Everyone always swears they would never deal with the Circle. That is, til sickness or sorrow knocks on their door."

Circle of Root and Bone

The Circle is a web of witches, hedge mystics, bone-readers and swamp hags (their words, not mine). They are healers and hexers, midwives and murderers. Sometimes all at once. No one admits to trusting them, yet every home in the Grounds hides a charm or potion touched by Circle hands.

Origins

The Circle's roots run older than the Grounds itself. Back when the land still shifted, it was the swamp-folk who offered protection: charms against the dead, blessings for harvests, and bargains with restless spirits. Over generations, they began binding their practices into a Circle of people. A people who never bent the knee to church or to order.

Beliefs & Goals

  • The world is bound by root and by bone.

  • The swamp is alive. The veil is thin. Those who listen may learn its secrets.

  • Every blessing has a curse, and every charm has a cost.

Allies & Rivalries

Both having territory in the Shantremar, the Circle and Catfish Court have been closely allied. In turn, the Holy Orders are more likely to turn their noses at the hedge mystics and primal healing practices.
