Treat Community as Survival

The Scourge taught one truth above all: no one endures alone. Choose the action that strengthens trust, shares risk, and keeps people fed, warned, and protected. Share the spotlight: set each other up to shine, ask for help as often as you offer it, and speak up when someone else’s skills or story belongs in the scene. In play, talk to characters in-world to build bonds, and talk to players out-of-world to make sure everyone’s getting the kind of moments they came for.

Face the Scars and Choose Hope

The tragic effects of the Scourge are still unfolding. The world carries wounds in the land, in memory, and in daily life. Let those scars matter in your choices, then choose hope anyway. Treat wins as communal victories, and let setbacks point to the next scene.

Let Deeds Make the Legend

Be a fan of your character: strengths, flaws, and growth. Make bold, interesting choices and let what happens next reshape who they are. Show ideals through action: favors called in, lines you will not cross, and risks you take when it counts. The legend is not what you planned. It is what you do together at the table.

Play to Find Out

Follow the fiction, listen closely, and build on what others say and do. Roll when it matters, accept what the dice tell you, and treat complications as prompts that push the story forward. Ask curious questions, reveal truths at the table, and invite others to add details so everyone helps build the setting as we go.

Hold on Gently

Improvised stories need room to breathe. Grip them firmly enough to keep the pieces that matter, and softly enough to let new ideas land. Keep plans light, pivot when a roll surprises you, and reframe a scene instead of forcing an outcome. Offer a small retcon when it preserves tone, consent, or continuity. If a clean tweak makes the fiction stronger or kinder, make it and move on. A gentle grip protects the spotlight, invites unexpected brilliance, and keeps momentum when the world bites back.
