Many people honor one or more ideals in daily life. A few go further: known as Questors, they make a formal public vow as a focused adherent to a single ideal. Their vow is known, their sign is visible, and communities look to them when that ideal is at stake.
Becoming a Questor
At character creation, or when you later gain a new Experience, you may choose Questor of [Ideal] as an Experience.
Write on your sheet: Questor of [Ideal]. Then choose:
Vow: one sentence that states what you stand for.
Deeds: two or three short verb phrases that live your Vow.
Taboo: one clear line you will not cross.
Sign: a small visible token.
Notes: You may pick from the common ideals or propose your own. Work with the GM to agree on your Vow, Deeds, Taboo and Sign, and how public perception of these might show up in play.
Questors In Play
When you act in clear service of your Vow or Deeds, you may spend 1 Hope to add +2 to a roll, just like any Experience.
If you knowingly break your Taboo, you cannot use this Experience until you atone in play with a public act that serves your Vow and repairs the harm.
Your Sign carries reputation. Aligned folk may offer small favors and will also ask you to live your Vow in public.
Example: Questor of Truth
Vow: seek fair judgment with compassion.
Deeds: gather the facts; hear both sides; protect a witness.
Taboo: do not knowingly spread falsehoods or suppress
testimony.Sign: a small plumb line worn on a cord, signifying,
“straight and true.”
