Introduction
“In lieu of my worship, explore the world around you. I bring words, not actions.” - Daolyn, The Amorous Amignificarem
Daolyn is the oldest god in the pantheon, who rules over neutrality, birds, the winds & cardinal directions, dreams, celestial bodies, temperance, navigation & travel. Considered by many to be the most intelligent of all the gods due to his age & intellect. Also responsible for the Arghans Moon (Silver Moon). When he needs to collect information, it is said he will send birds to gather what is needed.
Description
Universally perceived as an older masculine human-like common folk with a long, salt-and-pepper beard, bald scalp, large bushy eyebrows & round nose. His skin is usually a gray-ish blue & is adorned in long flowing robes of gold, silver, navy, blue & white. On his waist is a golden belt with a large cerulean jewel in its center, with a silhouette of a heron inside it. While tall & lanky, his posture is almost always upright. When not wanting to be discovered, he has been known to transform into large winged creatures, with the heron as his favorite form. When he speaks, it is in a punctual, articulate, yet calm demeanor; deep, but never stern.
Personality
To say Daolyn is wise is an understatement. Because of his vast knowledge on many things, he’s aware enough of most things to remain neutral in almost all matters mundane & divine. Unlike what many assume of him however, there are things Daolyn doesn’t know, & whenever he doesn’t have an answer on hand already, it peaks his intrigue & he searches untill he finds the answers he needs. When not searching, he is soft-spoken & speaks only when needed to, & will encourage devotees to find the answers they seek for themselves: in essence, he opens the door, but you must enter thru yourself.
Powers
With a vast array of knowledge & resources, he oversees all mortal activity in divination, knows the approximate location of all things & of all people. Able to fly as well as shape shift into older masculine people of any kind & any type of winged creature. He can also see into the past, present, future & all possibilities therein and is able to intervene, create & alter dreams when needed. Able to read stars & constellations.
Possessions
The Wand of Wyrded Winds
Daolyn's arcane focus he’s had since his inception, said to amplify the users power, grant flight & even move celestial bodies. Be warned though, for Daolyn knows where his items are at all times, and he knows -exactly- how to get it back from you.
The Cluster Cloak & Cowl
For reasons kept to himself, in lieu of common angelic wings, he instead uses his cloak & cowl, which viewed from far enough away can be perceived as the silhouette of a large bird. Any mortal who attuned to it is said to “fly to the sun, moons & back again” with minimal effort, even thru turbulent weather. All birds also treat the wearer as apart of their own flock regardless of otherwise appearances.
The Darot, Dulum & Dice
a series of divination tools consisting of a deck of cards, a crystal pendulum & set of dice, all said to be the source of Daolyns immediate, yet trivial knowledge, each tool answering a specific question: the Darot answers in regards to motivations & timeframes, the Dulum answering the exact locations of anything physical and/or tangible, & the dice adding any extra context needed. Each major landmasses have argued over which tool is his most used, their region specific & even the details of what these tools entail.
Realm
While he can be anywhere at anytime, his agreed-upon domain is in the spine of the Dusklands. From there he is also able to access the astral realm, the domain where dreamscapes appear & spirits reside, though he only watches & rarely intercepts. He also may reside in places of learning such as colleges & libraries.
Relations within the pantheon
Elvaren - as he is her uncle, the two get along fairly well, and will work together to bring much needed rain & snow to Amor. Acolytes who work intimately with Elvaren will at times pay homage to Daolyn, with prophets & fortune tellers invoking a blessing from him for messages of things that have happened, occur presently & what may be to come.
Molimai/Klazoa - Daolyn see this trickster for what he is, and because of his neutral stance on the rivalry between him and his brother, he remains neutral. He has more respect for his centaurian brother due to how he handles information & acts accordingly. Occasionally he will observe Molimai/Klazoa have moments of epiphany & admire his actions when he has them, but mostly sees him akin to a child who’s been given godly powers.
Animage/Hepheshtu - Due to Daolyn’s neutral stance on the brothers’ eternal rivalry, he observes from afar, but respects him for his controlled tenacity, response to information & general fortitude, and respects him more than his lackadaisical brother.
Roe’wyn - Daolyn considers them to an astute learner, and admires him as if he were his own child. This willingness has them working together whenever a mage practices divination in any form.
Nizoa - As they were both formed at the same time (albeit on opposite ends), Daolyn understands her place as a goddess, but also a monster maker; if there is no darkness, than light cannot exist.
Syprian - Considered his first ever pupil, Daolyn gave as much of His knowledge as He could to Syprian, in the hopes of him not only becoming his successor, but to help bring magic to Amor. In his noble sacrifice, Daolyn grieved with His niece & let her cry as much as she needed to. To bring a god to their former glory however is impossible, even for Him...
Worship
As the sole god in Amor’s pantheon who openly declines one’s zeal, he encourages followers to educate oneself on matters of his portfolio: the skies, travel, divination, education dreams. To become enlightened in his eyes is to know of many things, how to find them, and what they may mean to them. He accepts small statues in places of academia, oracles & temples dedicated to his niece with his quote nearby.
Practice of Faith
Because he doesn’t not ask for worship, those who do see him more as a mentor than anything, and dedicate themselves to scholarly pursuits, both mundane and magical. Most librarians and other teachers almost always have a basic working knowledge of either knowing for finding information, and are always willing to help others
Quests
Every so often, Daolyn will create a forgery of his possessions & leave clues in academia for those willing to find them. These items look exactly like the real thing, and can be sold as collectors items. However, their abilities are either incredibly stunted, or are only inanimate replicas. However, most institutions that hold these are said to be the best at teaching, so even to own a forgery is still a right in and of itself.
Temples
Because he is not worshiped in a religious manner, there are no exclusive temples for him. Most libraries, colleges & even a few temples for Elvaren hold small statues in his honor regardless. Only one exists in his name; a small shrine on a mountain hidden deep within The Spine.
Relics
The Nest Amulet - considered a prototype to Daolyn’s belt, this amulet, coated in silver with an image of a nest with eggs etched into a sapphire jewel in its center, is said to turn anyone into a a bird of their choosing. Because of its limited usage, Daolyn had given it to the sentient.(The amulet has 3 charges/long rest. When attuned the wearer can polymorph into any flying creature CR 3 or lower. The creature must be bird-like and have the ability to fly. Each time a charge is used, an egg disappears off the sapphire jewel.
Daolyn’s Third Eye - a large crystal ball that can scry on anyone or anything, provided the user knows the full name of the person or object. (The ball has 2 charges per long rest, and when attuned can only scry for one hour. The user also cannot hear anything being said. After two charges, any further attempts to scry with it result in cracks & fractures within the ball itself.)
