"Trank heb worfren, nei diwettha / For ever and ever, we last" - City Motto

Description

What was once a former prisoner’s capital (and a dragons den before that) is now attempting to better itself with cheaper homes, easy-to-train ostrich mounts & a newly formed apprentices roost for anyone interested in starting a business. While there’s still plenty of crime here, investments back into the city is bringing everything back to its feet.

Origin

Just before the Time of Dragons, one such dragon claimed this barren field as it's own, and used its powerful magic to keep their sky island above it to claim the area as its dominion, keeping all folk in captivity forcing them into slave labor. During the new guard's upheaval, the sky island relocated, and by nothing short of a miracle, remained untouched. According to legend, as celebration of the end of the time of dragons, Molimai & Animage challenged each other to a game of wits here, lasting for almost an entire year, the game ended in a draw, and Mulloch Manor was erected in its exact location.

Later named after it's founder, a dewdron-like commonfolk named Mybel Mullach, managed to "single-handedly domesticate [them]" and teach others how to do so in the process. Unfortunately, they were never good with their money, and aside from an enormous estate, has failed to financially recover since.

In an effort to boost the city's economy, a joint effort was recently completed to start "The Apprentice's Roost", a weekly rotating market of brand new businesses attempting to sell and create new wares. Many shops have begun here, and is slowly bringing more money into the city itself.

Geography

Located just off the coast of the Sunset Channel, at the base of the Boghosek River, the entire city rests on flatland valleys. The skies here are set to a permanent dusk, giving its citizens a breathtaking view of the skies above. Unfortunately, due to the constant winds here, its not easy for vegetation to grow. Aside from wheat and barley, almost all crops & food must be imported from other cities.

Districts

  • Daybreak Way - A typical city district with an average diaspora of commfolk, kinfolk & faefolk, the people of Daybreak Way pride themselves in their kindness; if any of their own is in need or food, water, or a service, word comes back around, and the help is given, generally with no questions asked. Rumors are circulating as to where and how these resources are given, and it is the one secret the people here keep under wraps.*

  • Knight's Fall - This area is reserved for soldiers, guards and other militaristic personel who have retired from their duties, completed their service and wish to settle somewhere quiet in their twilight years.

  • Apprentice's Roost - The acclaimed market hosting brand new shops and their merchants to sell unique items of all kinds. With a set limit on item pricing to keep things fair for customers and merchants alike. Many larger businesses elsewhere have started here, and many hope for the same amount of luck in coming here.

  • Dragon's District - Dreary, dilapidated and considered by locals to be "the poor's poor", rent here is dirt cheap due to the assumption that a dragon's floating den sat exactly in this area. Rumor has it however, that essence here may be amplified due to this phenomena, but so far it has yet to be properly tested.

Mullach Manor

Originally meant as a monastery for mages & other magical users, it is now known by many locals as "The Money Pit", the king of Mullach resides here with at least two other noble houses. Currently ran by Mybel's descendant, a "lazy, good-for-nothing halfwit" named Keren Whenston Mullach VI. Rarely ever open to the public unless other nobility shows up or the exorbitant touring fee is paid. Even then, the walls are as high as they are for a reason.

Government

One of the few places still holding up a "Monarchy" in the sense of a direct lineage, with several noble houses both in direct ties and performing more menial tasks underneath ruler-ship. However, several guilds with the support of locals are beginning to protest this form of government and are beginning to plan an uprising.

Law & Order

The city has ten city jails and seven courthouses. All civic courts are connected to each jail, and while are still in operation, all are leftover from the city’s former roll as slave captivity. With the city’s justice system run by 7 judges, each dealing with specific cases, more may also be called in depending on the crime’s severity. All judges here are rumored to be more lenient with punishments than in other places, and all judges are kept anonymous. Only one is said to be the most draconian, literally**.

Society

"Ah yes...Mullach...heheh, place may be dingy, but I couldn't ask for a closer community I tell ya's..." -

The majority of Mullach's citizens are caring, familial & close-knit, with an underground bartering system kept away from the prying eyes of the city watch, even in broad daylight. it is said that the theives'cant language may have originated from here in order to enact real change right under the guards' noses. Tight-lipped, and slow to trust, once you're in, you're an unofficial citizen of Mullach.

Organizations

Noble Houses

  • House Marghek - The first noble house located in Mullach Manor, these dwarven commonfolk are primarily focused on and sponsoring mounted city guard, training cavaliers to keep watch, with many house members either in high ranking official roles or serving under the current king.

  • House Monesek - The other noble line also housed in Mullach Manor, known by locals as "The only Elves who hoard", this family tree of elven commonfolk are the reason money has kept funneling into Mullach Manor instead of everywhere else in the city. rarely seen outside the manor's stone walls, and almost always escorted by an entourage of guards, some locals have been lucky enough to get under their skin, with one notable denizen successfully throwing a pie in their face, nicknamed "pecan Sam".

  • House Dhargonis - consisting of only three commonfolk, it is rumored that they've managed to inherit an entire trove of coinage after a successful lawsuit against House Monesek. A set of mages who have not only kept their identities secret, but because of their help in and around the communities, most folk who know how much they help, refuse to talk.***

Guilds

  • The Mullach Veteran's Guild - Originally set as a veterans program for finding jobs and post-soldier careers, the group has now formed a local union to prevent discrimination against veteran merchants and those entering back into civilian workforce

  • The Fish Fraternity - A Nostus-wide trade union, focused on dockworkers, sailors, mariners, lighthouse keepers & those who work the coastline of the sunset channel.

  • Elvaren Temple of Light, Seas & Love - Three small separate temples on opposite sides of the city, the clerics & paladins who oversee these places are primarily focused on helping the community, many of whom came to these places of worship not just as devotees, but also for room & board.
