"Perthi Orth Peub Tebelwrinas / Hold out against all evildoings " - City Motto

Description

Caderan, aka The Capital, is home to the Five stones of Syprian, and is considered to be the most important city in all of Nostus. Currently, it is considered a neutral territory due to its holy grounds. It is also described by many as "The Rocks".

For a bustling city, and especially for the central capital of Nostus, it's size remains small & humble. That's not to say it's devoid of activity; folk of all kind bustle thru the streets, peddlers fill the air with music, the smells of cooked meats & soups linger. With the exception of the enormous cliff side castle to the northwest & the sun permanently fixed in golden hour, it feels like any other coastal city.

Geography

Caderan is located to the south of Mullach, and is a checkpoint for five separate travel routes. Nestled along Nostus' coast, it juts out to the Auburn Channel. Further east is The Harborwood Docks. Just outside its borders are its farming lands, aptly referred to as South Caderan. To its southwest lies the major farming village of Crangrift. To it's north lies the North Caderan, aka Hermit's Hollow.

Society

"Yes, they -say- anyone can live here, it's only those who can afford to." - Cecila Husker, Head guard Overseer, Collie Kinfolk

Diversity of the city's populace is quite literally, all over the place. Peoples from all walks of life enter, live & leave the city as they wish. However, because of its Holy ground, living here is but a pipe dream for most, as the closest one may dwell to the fortified gates of the stone's grounds are out of financial reach to most of its citizens.

Government

Because of its privelige of having holy relics, the city's government incorperates its theocratic duopoly into the citys laws & ordinances, and the stones' representatives have the final say in all matters. All nobility, security and trade are to adhere to any & all polcies put in place. (major tithes for merchants)

Trade

Because of the city's strict laws on trade, a rotating market for travelling vendors called the Caderan Circut was established to entice merchants to permanently set up shop within the city's borders. Cycling thru new merchants every new moon, whoever earned the most would be given an oppourtunity to set up shop with temporary sponsorship by a respective guild for one year.

Defenses

With the exception of Caderan Castle, most of the city appears on the surface to be vulnerable. This is by design, as the city itself has a group of specialized mage-lords who, when brought together, summon magical defenses made from essence should there be a major looming threat posing danger to the city. Since it's founding however, there has been little need for this. Other defenses include watchtowers put in strategic places, guards placed in several districts thru out the city, and various checkpoints scattered thruout.

Origin

After Syprian sacrificed himself at the end of the Time of Dragons, he put all his knowledge into five stones, all made of an exclusive type of rock; Caderanite. These stones are the end-all, be-all of governance, and peoples from all over the world come here seeking their wisdom & knowledge. It was only a matter of time before people would settle here permanently.

Rumors & Legends

Because of both the hieghtened security of Caderan Castle & the exclusivity of those who even get to see the stones, a rumor has circulated that the stones may have been stolen, lost to time, or may not even exist.

Notable Districts & Locations

Caderan is divided up into several districts. With Caderan court housing most nobility & the five stones, along with Lover's Leeway in the northwest, The Caderan Circut to the southwest, The Southside referring to its southern coastline, Wharfside to its northeast coastline, and the Central Estate, housing the majority of its residents.

Inhabitants

The city's main denizens have always been the common-folk. Though it's not unheard of to find kinfolk, faefolk tend to be the most uncommon. However, no one is ever judgemental of anyone's appearance; one could in theory, walk thru the whole city without anyone batting an eye.
