The Fall

A rite of binding performed by King Tormun Veln in 944 AR. Veln's ambition was political consolidation between the church, the moot, the dukes, and the monarchy - as well as apotheosis. He sought to fuse the throne with cosmic Law itself, to become Law made flesh: an immortal sovereign beyond death, deposition, or challenge. A king not appointed by divine right, but constituted from it. Something wrong happened in the rite, or the cosmos rebuked him. Chaos answered where Law was called, and Tormun Veln was cursed. His entire lineage became not a vessel for Law, but the bearers of Chaos.

The Druidic Circle, the Veldic Dukes, and the High Faith all declared the lineage forfeit. They warred against Veln to cast him and his supporters from the city of Sorvel. Exiled from civilization and driven into the wilds. No successor was named, and the throne has stood empty in the century since. The cursed line did not die out, at least one heir survived, and is known today as the Hollow King.
