One of the three primordial principles, alongside Law and Chaos. Neutrality is the balance between, the living world, the cycle of seasons, the weight that keeps the scales true. It is not indifference, rather it is the recognition that Law and Chaos must coexist, that neither can triumph without destroying everything.
Neutrality is natural cycles and patterns that repeat without being static, the turning of seasons and life, pragmatism and doing what works, living within the world's patterns rather than trying to dominate them. At its best it is wisdom, harmony, sustainable existence. At its worst it is passivity, cowardice, refusal to take necessary stands.
The Balance, the careful equilibrium between Law and Chaos that allows reality to exist, is Neutrality's domain. When the Tormun Veln broke the Balance by enacting The Fall, he attacked Neutrality as much as Chaos. The rising tide of Chaos is the Balance trying to correct itself.
The Old Ways, animism, ancestor veneration, worship of little gods and nature spirits: these are aligned with Neutrality. Practitioners seek to live within the world's rhythms, respect powers greater than themselves, maintain reciprocal relationships with spirits and ancestors, accept that life includes both order and change.
Since the Fall, Neutrality has become more relevant. The Old Ways have re-surged as people seek alternatives to the failures of the High Faith and the monarchy. The Druidic Circle offers counsel and protection to those on the rural edges. Those who seek to restore the Balance rather than defeat Chaos may hold the only real solution, but Neutrality offers no armies, no grand cathedrals, and no throne.
Whether Neutrality can be called upon, bargained with, or served directly is unclear. It may help those who help themselves maintain balance, or it may simply be what mortals must navigate as best they can.
