Concentrate

Action Trait

The Concentrate trait marks actions that require deliberate mental focus and discipline. An action with this trait demands that the creature be capable of directing its attention and will; it typically cannot be used while the creature is under conditions that explicitly forbid concentrating (such as certain rages or mental impairments), unless the action also carries an exempting trait.

By itself, Concentrate does not change how an action works—it exists so that other rules can interact with it. For example, some abilities trigger reactions when a creature within reach uses a concentrate action, and some class features (like many rages) explicitly prohibit using actions with the Concentrate trait while they are active.

Common examples of concentrate actions include Ready, Seek, Sense Motive, Dismiss, Sustain, and many item activations and spell manipulations that rely on command or envision components. Casting a spell or activating an item often gains the Concentrate trait via components like command or envision, which represent focusing your will or voice to channel a specific effect. In Starfinder 2e as well, feats and special actions such as spellshape tweaks or support shouts may explicitly call out the Concentrate trait to show that they require mental effort rather than purely reflexive motion.
