This manual explains the Map Control system. Ticket if you have questions.

To view the two maps, the City Map and Outer Map, open the menu in the left-hand bar. The City Map shows areas accessible in-game, whilst the Outer Map shows areas that are accessible by Progression or Instanced Event only.

Definitions

The map is divided into Nodes. Each Node represents an area, e.g. Mercer Farmstead, or a building, e.g. the Khama Temple. Click on a Node to see its description on the left-hand side.

Each Node contains Issues. These are visible on the left-hand side, below the description. These are problems faced by the people in the location, or problems with its environment.

Nodes are connected by Paths. Paths do not determine in-game movement, but how far one Node is from another is determined by how many Nodes are between them on a valid Path.

  • Most of the map will be unavailable to traverse in game from the beginning. However-As Nodes become accessible, those areas will become available to travel to in-game as well.

Controlling Nodes

Controlling Nodes is important. If a Node is Controlled by your Company, you have it under occupation. Its people and resources are at your disposal, and you enforce its laws.

Controlling a Node changes it to your Company's color. Uncontrolled Nodes are colored white. Nodes not in range to be Controlled this turn are colored black. No information is given on them. When the map updates, if they enter into range, they turn white and information is added.

Starting Nodes are represented by icons of houses. These Nodes cannot be Controlled by anyone. In-Character events may change this later, making them open to Control.

Nodes are Controlled by resolving their Issues. When all of a Node's Issues are resolved, the Company that resolved the most Issues gains Control of the Node. While resolving Issues grants independent rewards, in the end, only one Company can Control a Node.

Your Control of a Node is more thorough the more of its Issues your Company resolved. A Company which secured Control of a node with a lead of only one Issue has much more fragile Control than a Company which secured Control by completing every issue of their Node.

Nodes on or near the coast are important, as they allow a path for troops from outside the Isle to enter as reinforcements. Whose troops arrive first has effects on the story.

Contesting Nodes

Nodes are Contested by reopening an Issue in a Node. This can be either to try to steal Control from someone else, or to increase your share of a Node you already Control. Be warned that this is hostile behavior, and may cause NPC deaths or unpredictable outcomes!

The Contesting Company chooses which Issue they reopen. Success moves credit for that Issue's resolution to the Contesting Company. If the majority of Issues become resolved by that Company, then Control changes to them, and they gain possession of that Node.

If your Node is Contested, then you can cancel one of your other Actions that turn in order to Defend your Node from the Contesting Company, which makes the related Event a PvP experience and vastly increasingly its difficulty for the Contesting Company.

Movement and Scheduling

A Company can take one Action per ten Player Characters in that Company per week. If a Company has less than ten people, it can take one Action. Each Character in a Company can only be part of one Action.

There are two Actions: resolving an Issue (see Controlling Nodes) in a Node, or reopening an Issue (see Contesting Nodes) in a Node. Each Action only affects one Issue.

You can Act on a Node when all of the below are true:

  • The Node is:

    • Within three Nodes of a Node you Control, a starting Node, or a Node whose Controlling Company has given you permission to Act from it (City Map), or

    • Adjacent to one of those Nodes (Outer Map).

  • If the path to the target Node passes through any controlled Nodes, each Controlling Company of those intermediate Nodes must also grant permission to Act through them.

Connections between the City Map and the Outer Map are labeled on the Outer Map and shown as red lines on the City Map.

We publish Map Control updates immediately after each Event, so check in.

Weekly Actions are declared by Company leads in the Ticket Bot on Sundays (beginning 00:00 EST). Sundays are reserved for determining when events will happen and which DM will run them. Any Action unresolved by Sunday (00:00 EST) of the next week is failed.

In the case that multiple Companies try to resolve the same Issue, the Company acting from closer to the target Node gets priority. If all Companies come from the same distance, then the Company with less Actions gets priority, and the one with more has to reschedule.

If both Companies are acting from the same distance and have the same number of Actions, then a duplicate Issue variant is ran for both Companies by the same DM. If both Companies succeed in resolving the Issue, a CRP is scheduled to determine which Company resolves it.
