The Fallen Kingdom - Overview

The kingdom is gone. The struggle continues....

The Fallen Kingdom exists in a world where the forces of evil won...centuries ago.

The great kingdom of Galdoria, wisely ruled by a succession of enlightened kings and protected by the mighty dragon Athiar the Golden, thrived in peace and prosperity for centuries.

But the machinations of the Night Sisters, a coven of powerful witches, set in motion a chain of events that led to the corruption and eventual fall of Athiar, as the shadowy force of the Umbra crept into the world.

With the dragon diminished, opportunistic powers swept across the land. Borders crumbled, cities burned, and once proud lands were reduced to isolated states clinging to whatever order and security they could muster.

Now, the remnants of Galdoria struggle to survive, doing what they can to resist the darkness that still prowls their borders.

The Current Time - 480DE (Dragon Era)

The old kingdom is dead.

It has been four centuries since the fall. In that time, the land has become a fractured, haunted shadow of its former glory. The once-mighty realm is now spoken of only in old songs and half remembers stories, its golden age remembered more as myth than history.

The Kingdom of Galdoria

What remains of Galdoria is scattered and splintered, small, isolated communities cling to survival amid the wilderness and ruins.

At the heart of this darkness lies Farnor, the former royal capital, now a throne of Umbra. Upon which sits Athiar the Golden, no longer gold, no longer a savior. Twisted into a Shadow Dragon, he broods over a realm of corruption. From Farnor, a great shroud of Umbra radiates outward, warping the land, sky, and the very soul of anything caught within its reach.

The Night Sisters

The coven have cemented their dominion over the southern coast, ruling through their puppets, the Merchant Lords. The cities of Mytos, once vibrant centers of trade, are now dens of cruelty and fear, their people bled, literally and figuratively, for the Night Sisters' dark appetites.

The Vampire Princes

The Vampire Princes, betrayed and denied their promised rule by Athiar, have returned to the crypts and ruins of the north. There, they gather strength once more, their hatred for the Shadow Dragon festering. Their ambition has not faded.

The Dwarves

The Ironhelm Kingdom, deep in its stone halls, remains locked away in bitter isolation, its people stewing on betrayal and grief. Few venture out, and fewer return. But for a few holds that remain open, the dwarves have retreated from a world that has taken so much from them.

The Loyalists

At Drakefell Keep, the ancient fortress nestled against the cliffs of the northwestern isles, some loyal to the old order yet remain. Paladins of the Order of the Golden Talon endure. Though diminished, they guard the last hope of Galdoria: Princess Elenya, the last of the royal line. In secrecy, they plot her return and the rekindling of the kingdom’s light.

The Havvarlandians

To the west, sea-raiders from distant lands arrived a generation after the fall, carving out the Kingdom of Havarrlan from the remains of Galdoria’s western reaches. Now splintered into three warring petty kingdoms, the Havarrlan warlords battle one another in endless feuds.

The Orcs Warbands

In the east, orc tribes roam the mountains and the desolate badlands below, waging war against one another, and anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path.

The Dragonborn Pirates

The Dragonborn Islands, once home to scholarly monasteries and ancient temples, have devolved into a den of pirates and cutthroats. Ruthless bands of dragonborn now raid coastal settlements.

The Elves

The Elves had long suffered from the encroachment of man long before the fall of Galdoria. Reduced to communities scattered across the deep woods of the world. The lands of Thalen Vor, the Crimson Woods and the Moonvale being the only ones of note.

They guard their lands jealously and have few dealings with the wider world.

The Eredilanders

In the ruined south, the land of Eredilan is ruled by the Betrayed, sentient undead, remnants of the population devastated by the Plague of Undeath centuries ago. Neither fully alive nor entirely dead, they wander in torment, seeking a way to free themselves from their cursed half-existence. They were never meant to exist; their suffering an unintended consequence of the Night Sisters’ schemes.
