Republic of Genetsa
The Republic of Genetsa is the strongest economic centre and republic of Asdar, and perhaps of the world. Formed by Garminians arriving as traders around 3900 a.e., the republic has grown to expand the entire peninsula of eastern Asdar. Though consisting of multiple cities, the Jewel of the Republic is Genetsa City, a place of great wealth and extreme differences, from its ultrarich oligarchs to the slum-living factory worker.
The Council
The Republic is ruled by the Council of Genetsa, eight councillors elected by citizenry. The members of the Council are usually the heads of great families and organisations or influential businessmen and industrialists. So while most in Genetsa claim the republic is a democracy, many would call it an oligarchy instead.
The Elves
Genetsa was formed on the ashes of the Elven Forest of Avelon, and the Elves have not forgotten this. Many Elves and Half-Elves despise the Republic for its greed and callousness. Many Elves of Avelon are still hostile to Genetsa, harrying the traders and settlements close to the forest. To the Elves, Genetsa City often goes by a different name: Dinas y Tyrau'i Dwyn, or the City of the Stolen Towers. Despite this, Genetsa City and especially Elf Town is one of the largest centres of Half-Elven population, living and working within the Republic.
Magic and Arcanotech
While not outright outlawed, magic is mistrusted in Genetsa, especially by the state and Council. This distrust is especially directed at magic users, either seen as street charlatans or dangers to those around them. The Genetsans instead prefer items and contraptions infused with magic which may be operated by anyone. While the process of enchanting magic items has existed for millennia, the Genetsans and their new profession of artificers have taken this to a new level: arcanotech.
Due to this new development, magic contraptions, weapons, vehicles, and massive animated walkers (arcanomatons) are becoming a common sight in Genetsa.
In terms of real-world culture, Genetsa can be seen as a mix of medieval and industrial England and Holland.
