Scrolls and Potions Rules

The Basics

What are Scrolls & Potions?

Scrolls and potions are integral parts of a Wizard and a Healer’s repertoire. Prepared in between events, they can be a quick and effective alternative to expending spells, enhancing a caster’s power and enabling them to continue to cast on an extended adventure. They are also a useful way to put magic in the hands of those with no, or limited spellcasting ability in the realm.

Who can use potions and scrolls?

Potions

Potions are the more simple of the two, but are still very powerful, as they can achieve their effects immediately upon use. Since they are simple, any player can use a potion and gain its effect.

Scrolls

Scrolls are a bit more complicated as they are required to be written and spoken in a cadence that is only known to those who have previously studied magic in some way.

In order for players to use a scroll, they must have Read/Write Arcana.

Physical Representation

Scrolls

Phys Rep: Scrolls should be on parchment or some paper made to resemble an old fashioned or hand made sheet. They must be written in accordance with the spell listing, in that they are a number of words equal to the normal casting of the spell, including invocation, and a description of spell. A scroll must have the mark of its maker.

Potions

Phys Rep: Potions should be of spells that make sense in potion form. Typically, this means personal buffs to armor points, or hit points, and healing. Potion containers should be made of plastic, as glass could break and be dangerous. Healers or Wizards creating potions should remind others that they are meant as role playing aids only and not to be actually imbibed.

DO NOT DRINK POTIONS.

Creating Potions and Scrolls

Mana Points

With the Scrolls & Potions Skill you may create a number of potions and scrolls in between events. The power and number of scrolls and potions you can create is based on your "Mana Points". Your Mana Points are equal to your Tier. So if you have achieved Tier 4 you have 4 Mana Points that you may use. With these Mana Points you could create two Tier 2 scrolls, or 4 Tier 1 potions, or any combination you like up to your total number of Mana Points.

What can be made into a Potion/Scroll?

Most spells can be scrolls, but only select ones can be potions. The following is a chart to help show which can be crafted. If a skill or spell is not listed in this chart, it cannot be made.
