Shadows

There are those in Osterra who inflict suffering and death wantonly. Few among these are so vile as necromancers who seek to rend the spirits of their victims and trap immortal essences in the mortal plane. When such a sorcerer succeeds, the result is a Shadow. No more than a twisted husk of the person who came before, Shadows are violent by nature. It is as if they seek to inflict their suffering upon the living so ill-fortuned as to discover their unhallowed resting places. A warning to those who wander upon a nexus of these creatures; the power of a shadow is not simply to puncture armor and flay flesh. Their claws can rend vital essence temporarily, and harm the will of those in their talons.

Shadows are, as their name implies, intangible by mundane means. While I suspect it is possible they can be harmed by holy weapons and the like, the most accessible method of protecting oneself from Shadows is divine light. Casting a simple light spell will send these pitiful creatures shrieking into the dark from whence they came. Regretfully, I have no techniques to pass along for the freeing of Shadows from their endless suffering. Perhaps as the realm heals from the Risa Fae’s ancient doom, we will harness greater magics to lay these accursed souls to rest.
