Venture Brennen Farno

Biography

Brennen comes from the City of Prosperity, Holy City of the Church of Pecune. Being a follower of Pecune, the god of Wealth and Prosperity, Brennen believes those who strive to lead a prosperous life should be supported.

Backstory

“Like all ventures and profits in the service of Pecune, I began my work in the church as an apprentice venture, and it was our duty to balance the books of the church. Money would flood into the holy city of Prosperity, and it was our duty to properly allocate it, and send it back out into the world where it would do the most good. It was necessary for both the running of the church, as well as our education of its inner workings.

It was an honorable duty, but it was a dull duty. Day in and day out, we would count seemingly endless coin and stock, read through documents like an endless sea of numbers and look for something that may or may not be out of place.

I looked forward to the day that I would set out to do my masterwork, and become a master venture. I longed to see the world, so much so that I had spent two months of allowance on a detailed map. I would stare at it for hours, imagining all the places I could travel for my masterwork.

It was a day like any other, when I found my calling. I was going through a ledger of purchases made by the church, and was allocating coin for the stock delivered. This was a large shipment of goods and the list was long. My eyes were beginning to get heavy, but I had to fight the sleep and complete my task. However, eventually the monotony of the task won, and I began to doze off. As soon as I realized I had fallen asleep, I jolted myself awake. In the process, my knee hit the table leg, and the coins went falling to the ground. In my clumsy attempt to catch the coins, I dragged my map off the table as well. When the coins hit the floor, they did not fall flat, but instead, they began to spin on their edges. One of the coins spun onto the map, and continued to spin over a distant forest. When it was done spinning, it just stood on its edge.

I took this as a sign from Pecune, and described my events to the master ventures and profits. They agreed that this was a sign, and sent me away to seek out this forest. So thus I ventured forth to complete my masterwork.

It was a long journey, but I enjoyed every stop along the way. I got to see towns, mountains, valleys, rivers, and more. It was a relatively safe journey; most bandits are wise enough not to attack a venture, for they tend to give their usual merchant prey fatter coin purses.

When I arrived at the forest, I had expected to find a town, or someplace that I might be able to do Pecune's work. However, there was just a forest. I searched for three days, looking for any signs of life. On the third day, I found a meadow. Standing in the middle of the meadow, there was what appeared to be a cloud of luminescent dust, swirling in place. I approached it out of curiosity, but as I walked closer, I started to get pulled in. I tried to run away, but the force pulling me in was too strong. Thus I was pulled through the portal.

I found myself in another forest, and the cloud was gone. I had no idea what had happened and continued to wander until I found a band of mercenaries. They let me join up with them as we tried to figure out where we were. They had also had similar experiences, stepping through portals and finding themselves lost in the woods. Eventually, we found a small tavern, with many more people like us. I learned that they had all come from different realms through portals and that this realm was a hub for all of their realms. It was at this point I realized what my masterwork was to be. I needed to connect all the realms together through this hub, to further trade and prosperity through all the realms.“
